Romney doesn't need OH, but if he doesn't get it he absolutely needs to keep VA and FL. Then he needs all of NV/CO/IA. Or get WI and 2 of them. It's hard without Ohio, but it's not impossible.

At least I think those scenarios work that way.

I think this is the only way to get rid of the electoral college. Maybe politicians will remember that cities count.

Key Romney foreign policy advisor and Bushco retread hack Dan Senor burbling to anyone who will listen today about Romney not ruling out negotiating with Iran

So Romney's basic platform, across the board, is boiling down to policy (as contrasted with personality) mirroring.

Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

With the upcoming fiscal cliff negotiations and whatnot, I would have thought you'd prefer Obama having a bit of a mandate

Just had this exact discussion with somebody over the weekend. It appears that O winning college but R winning popular is a very realistic outcome. That would be horrible, if only from an optics POV.

It would make politicians care about entire swaths of the country that they currently don't give two shit about. Plus, the guy with the most votes will never again lose. It's usually a good thing to get the right guy in office.

His people have made noises that he'll veto anything that doesn't include the Bush tax cuts expiring on wealthy tax payers, even if that means everything expiring. If he comes in having won reelection in a position of strength, it will be easier for him to win a battle of public opinion. If both sides dig in, the only thing that will get them to blink is if polling shows them getting killed. I think the only real shot of that happening is if the GOP House is seen as obstructing Obama's mandate, which loses a lot of its sting if Obama loses the popular vote.

Housh's rhetorical question was addressed to the mandate issue, not that of the Electoral College.

you really don't think Republicans will dig in either way? they dug in last time when he had a mandate

As mandatey as one gets and it didn't matter. Won't now, either.
