Which questions do you think were unfair? For example, I thought that the question asked by the one lady of Governor Romney about the specific loopholes he would cut was indicative of a probable Democratic voter (because no Republican would put Romney on the spot like that, and most independents wouldn't be engaged enough to get to that level of detail).

However, it is an unquestionably fair question to ask.

I thought the back to back questions with the woman whining about the horseshit 'fact' of women making 72% of men and then the woman asking how Romney was different when Bush were bad, especially since that seemed to be where Crowley let Obama get an extra turn or two. It was just a rough stretch.

I don't know of any serious study that says there isn't a gender wage gap.

And if you are looking to get married some day, particularly to an intelligent woman (like, say, one you might meet in grad school), I'd watch your "tone" in discussing same... Believe me, I know of what I speak.

I really liked the Bush question, but again, I don't the guy who asked it was really undecided. On the other hand, it did give Romney a real opportunity that he squandered. The 72% question was sort of silly--the trend is overall the gap is shrinking, though the glass ceiling remains. And if you spend time with college aged students, you'll quickly come to the conclusion that there are lot of really dumb and incompetent bros out there who are going to be living in mom's basement for a long, long time.

CNN debate viewer poll. Who won? 46% Obama, 39% Romney MoE +/- 4%

So Obama maybe edged it. I guess we'll see how it plays out.

RT @blakehounshell: Candy Crowley just now on Romney's Libya flub: "He was right in the main, but he just chose the wrong word."

Fucking great Candy. Both of them lied a half dozen times tonight, and you chose to weigh in once - prompting crowd applause - on something where he was "right in the main" but chose the wrong word.

And you wonder why Republicans hate the media.

For serious. I taught college too, and the amazing thing is that, out of all those douchey white male students who snicker at you and let you know how little they give a shit about you or your class, about half of them will still wind up with awesome jobs, nice houses, great cars, etc.

The disconnect of Romney's answer on the pay equity question is that by and large it's not professional women of the type he had in those binders (who knew?) who need legal protection. Like most very highly educated people, they have much more leeway to set the terms of their employment. If they can't get paid at one gig, they'll go somewhere that will meet their terms. It's the ones that don't have grad degrees and a ton of other good options who benefit by the Ledbetter law.

As for the questions, one of my favorite alt-debate scenarios (though not quite at the level of "drink a shot every 15 minutes") is asking the candidates to answer questions from the smartest partisans on the other side. It would be fun to hear Ezra Klein or Matt Yglesias query Romney, or Ramesh Ponnoru grill Obama.

i went to school with a lot of complete morons that are currently making a ton of money. the one i know who is making the most money thinks obama is a muslim from kenya.

edit: to be fair, he just made fun of candy crowley by saying she's a fatty fat fat so she can't be fair. and honey boo boo is voting for obama ( a 7 year old), so anyone else who does is stupid too.

Nobody argues that women get paid 72% of men for doing the same work. That's why it's a shitty question. Controlling for all stuff one can control for, education, time off, type of work, education, hours, the pay gap is estimated to be between 7% and 0% for entry level and slightly above entry level workers. The problem is women getting into leadership positions, and the sacrifices that they inevitably need to make if they want to raise their family a certain way. Is it unfair that men feel more of a biological imperative to work 80 hour weeks to be the provider, and that women often feel an imperative to spend more time with their family? Maybe, maybe not.

My wife makes more than me, but I predict that in 10-15 years, I'll earn more than her due to the choices that we'll make in raising a family.

Ann-Marie slaughter article that hits on some of these points. http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/arc ... ll/309020/

Yeah, maybe so, but I think those days are coming to an end. The problem isn't that they're douchey--douchebags can do very well for themselves. The problem is they simply can't function--the ones I'm talking about aren't even graduating.
