I thought he defended his record much better than he has previously, or than Biden did. Maybe that's too low a bar. The problem he has obviously is that if you're too celebratory while people are still hurting, it comes off as insensitive at best and delusional at worst.

On some level I wish he had a better defined second term agenda. But I don't remember Bush doing that in 2004--Social Security privatization was only aired after he won, which might have had something to do with his winning--and given that Republicans will oppose everything he proposes anyway, even if they otherwise support it, I'm not all that perturbed about it.

From what I remember, Bush lost all 3 debates without even mentioning SS privatization, then tried to used his political capital to privatize it.

FWIW, I mostly agree with JH. I do wonder why the Romney folks agreed to hold the undecided voter debate in New York. Though to be fair, Nassau County used to be a very Republican county. Don't know if it still is.

Which questions do you think were unfair? For example, I thought that the question asked by the one lady of Governor Romney about the specific loopholes he would cut was indicative of a probable Democratic voter (because no Republican would put Romney on the spot like that, and most independents wouldn't be engaged enough to get to that level of detail).

However, it is an unquestionably fair question to ask.

It's not that the questions were unfair, it's that Romney got more tough questions than Obama. Now, in part that's because Romney has been so vague about stuff. I do think as the debate went on, Obama received a few questions (2nd amendment, Libya) that were tough on him.

I didn't see the debate, but it sounds like it was good for Obama but maybe not goo enough in the face of his atrocious first debate.

Yes, remember! Also, I mean I understand the point of what Romney was saying about the counterfiet Apple plant, I guess I am just saying it's a little weird because when I think of "Chinese counterfeit" I think of things that are made somewhere else, and are cheaply imitated in China: Rolex watches, authentic MLB jerseys, Italian handbags, etc.

But iPhones are made in China in the first place. Therefore, a "Chinese iPhone" is not necessarily counterfeit. I don't know. Drunk I guess.

Nassau County is back in Republican control. "Very Republican", maybe not

I mean, yes, I understand this.

Maybe it's time for me to simply gracefully drop this subject.

I know, I know: too late.

I think he probably undid a lot of the damage from the first debate. Not all, but I bet he reestablishes his lead among women, on foreign policy, and on things like "cares more about people like you."

Before the debate, Silver still had Obama at something like 65 percent. That seemed much too high and probably driven by economic fundamentals, given the momentum and Obama's general lameness in the first one. What I suspect tonight did was push the race back toward those fundamentals, and re-energize Democrats who'd never gotten down from the ledge after Oct. 3.
