Personally I think they look good untucked with shorts (cargo shorts, of course PtK).

I've always kinda hated the way the sleeves on short-sleeved button-downs look, like they sorta flare out or something. my arms are puny, though, so maybe that's why. I've always just preferred rolling up the long sleeves, and I don't think it's really hotter that way or anything

I agree with this. Even if you have arm muscle it still looks dumb to for it to be fitted around your bicep. I had a few short sleeve button downs, but I've gotten rid of them all and just go with the rolled up sleeves on a regular button down. It's more versitile, can wear it any time of year, and I like the rolled up sleeves look on me. Makes me look manly yo.

short sleeve button downs are pretty in-style. if you're decent looking and not fat, I say go for it.

my roommate will wear button down short sleeves. i cringe but bite my tongue. its something thats def not for me though.

I think the exception to the short sleeve button down would be that it's ok if it's linen

a coworker bought me some linen button down short sleeve t's. not sure how i go about wearing these. i don't even know why he would buy these for me anyway. feel like i'm gonna go bowling in them.

i hope we're not getting plain white short-sleeve dress shirts considered as the target here. They are definitely no good. In short, any shirt that you should wear a tie with is not acceptable in short sleeves. I'm talking short-sleeve, button-down pattern shirts.
