maybe we should just put all of that in the exhibit bin for illustrating the perils of confusing correlation with causation.

Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

I saw something recently about the most successful businessmen who won the presidency. The two I remember were Carter and Hoover. I think there are a couple Gilded Age guys in there as well. OTOH, the business failures turned presidents include Lincoln and Truman.

Truman might be the most underrated president.

Are your posts about how you see Romney or how you think voters will see Romney? Because I tend to read them as being your views, not your assessment of how the electorate sees him, and those are two different things.

I'm mostly doing a parody of a republican voter, except from the other side. Like, what if democrats acted towards Mitt like republicans act towards Obama. You know, fear that he's a secret plant by mormons to turn america into a mormon empire and his secret agenda to open up the mexican border to let in all his relatives and cheap labor. But there are some things in there that I really believe, such as there's got to be something pretty bad in there if he's not willing to release them at this point. Maybe he's afraid people will find out about Bain being financed by money from Salvadoran death squads. I also believe he's led a pampered life and doesn't know what it's like to be a regular Joe. If he did, he wouldn't be so tone deaf about things related to money and losing jobs. I also believe he lacks empathy.

Come to think of it, I guess I do believe a lot of it, but I hyperbolized it and added in some crazy to spoof a birther-type.

BREAKING: A guy I know who knows a guy who knows things says he has heard from the guy who knows things that Romney has picked Ryan, and the announcement could be tomorrow

But the guy who knows things isn't sure if he's being told the truth or being bullshitted in an attempt to leak it out for one final press headfake before the real choice

That's not a gamechanger. As someone who wants Obama to win, I'm pretty okay with that.

I can't imagine he would announce the running mate until after the Olympics end. That said, I don't know when the Olympics end.

It would be fascinating to see Ryan in the campaign. His involvement would almost force the media to cover some actual policy issues and present the choice, which would be a positive. But my hunch is still that it'll be the governor of Virginia.

Did you see Nate Silver's post yesterday? Laid out pretty clearly that's probably the best choice.

For as much as I respect Silver's work, VP selection is much more of a scout than saber type thing when it comes to analysis.

Also the campaigns have a ton of information that people like Nate don't have.

As much as I respect him for having a plan, there are quite of few aspects of Ryan's plan that are quite unpopular with the general public when you break it down. One of my professors talked about how having an extensive record is becoming a liability on the national stage. Obviously I'm not reiterating his point as articulately as he did, but I think its fair to label that as a risk to consider with Ryan.

Dan McLaughlin (@baseballcrank on Twitter) is a smart guy. One of the few decent posters at RedState.

More prominently, the WSJ editorial page, Weekly Standard and National Review are all frothing at the mouth for Ryan

It would be a risk, yes.

But Romney has already backed Ryan's budget, and he sells it better than anyone else. Might as well just fucking go for it.

I've been predicting Christie from the beginning, so I'll stick to that. Mitt needs someone likable to make him seem likable.

I also wouldn't be surprised with martinez. She's a popular pol from a swing state and she might help him with his female and hispanic problems.
