Might be the most packed week of the year with things I care about but cannot do anything to change the outcome - Phils games, NBA Conference Finals, Stanley Cup Finals, Wisconsin recall election, EURO 2012 starts, WC qualifying starts

Sectarianism is basically nationalism but instead of being overly proud of your nation, you're overly proud of some other entity.

Oh, you don't say?

My point is that people like to shit on nationalism, but there is a strong argument to be made it would be prudent to try build nationalism around the rest of the world. I think pacino probably appreciates this, but I thought I'd point it out anyway.

World populations continue to coalesce around cities.

Maybe you'd have better luck promoting city-statism

Part of the problem this nationalism discussion is running into is a failure to be precise with usage. Nationalism implies a nation--either a bona fide actual nation like France, or a historic nation where people are linked usually by an ethnic identity as well as language and religion.

Language often is a central issue--Quebecois are generally ok with being Canadians as long as official business is conducted in their version of French. Black South Africans got very upset during the apartheid era about the Boers insisting on using Afrikaans in schools. It's easy to see why this is a problem--one need not assert superiority, but if the main business of the place where you've lived is conducted in a language other than yours you're very much going to be a second class citizen.

11 years of driving and my perfect game has finally ended. Got popped for speeding on the way from Denver to Boulder. Honestly, had no clue what the speed limit was. 70 seemed reasonable.
