I still use it as often as possible. When I get paid each month, I send all but $640 to bills and investments. Then I take out $160 in cash every weekend and try to make it last. If it doesn't, I go to the credit card.

I get some puzzled looks from friends and outright criticism, but I'm pretty sure I piss away a lot less money than they do.

I carry cash basically just for the lunch trucks around the office. But now a bunch of them have started to take credit cards and/or LevelUp, so maybe I can go back to cashless eventually.

Thing is, with cash, you always know exactly how much you have. If you use a debit card, you've got to either be a lot more careful keeping track of your balance than I am or you've got to keep checking your balance. For me, I just find cash simpler.

You will get there man. I didn't make any money until I was like 28 ya gotta get that experience and a few promotions and before you know it you'll be raking that cheddah in. I remember living on ramen, Mac and cheese, and pb&j sandwiches for like a year in my early 20's. Good times.

Here's the thing--you start making more money, and then you do dumb stuff like procreate and buy a house, and you'll have less disposable money than you do now.

I try to use Amex as much as I can because of their cash back rewards program. I have my card linked with a mint.com account, which is set to send me email alerts when I get close to the point where I wouldn't be able to pay off the entire balance that month. For places that don't take Amex I'll generally use the Visa debit card that's linked directly to my checking account (which is also linked to mint.com and has similar email alerts configured). Initial setup took maybe an hour or two, but it's been pretty much hands off since then, except for when I occasionally update passwords or adjust alerting thresholds.

You still trying to become a DBA? They always seem to make more than us SysAdmins anywhere I've worked.

I knew a music comp DBA--he paid the bills by playing violin with the National Tour of Cats for a few years. He always hated conductors, but apparently, he's not fond of human musicians either. He does this:

Nice! I started and never finished a Python course on lynda.com a few months back. Might have to give it a go again.
