a lot of banks do at least

Late on this, but most don't anymore. Had MIL switch from Citizens to her local credit union because they were charging something like $11 a month. For someone on a limited income, that $100+ can make a difference.

I love this about ING. What I hate it is that it takes a week to transfer between external accounts.

Charles Schwab checking > no fees > reimburse all ATM fees > .1 % interest (used to be much better)

Right now, it doesn't matter how much you have in checking and how much you have in savings. Really, if you keep 1500 in your checking to stay above the minimum, you're foregoing something like 10 bucks a year in interest if you have it in a savings account. It isn't worth the effort. (this coming from a guy who has something like 15 checking and savings accounts combined and realized he should consolidate because keeping up with all of them is a hassle).

The government thinks you use BSG to launder money.

savings accounts are for suckers. ing accounts are for suckers. all of those things are dumb. just put it all in your checking account and be done with it.

the sub 1% you're making is fucking pointless and gaining nothing.

i direct deposit that puts 80% into a checking account, 10% into a reserve checking account, and 10% into a savings account. i only keep the 10% in a savings account for big purchases. the other one for smaller purchases. and the checking account for all of my bills.

I can see a savings account as being "not worth it". How is it for suckers.

I save about $20-$40 bucks a month in ATM fees and have no extra fees what so ever. Wouldn't say it's dumb or not worth it or for suckers.

for those of us who don't have enough funds to invest in earnest that sub 1% is better than nothing.

PNC reimburses me for ATM fees. 1% is getting you like 20$ a year. its not worth the effort of managing.

By the way, if you have at least a 500 dollar automated deposit in your wells fargo checking account made monthly, the fee is waived as well.

i think ive made around 5k in interest with ing, i'll check when I get home. but there is no managing at all. not sure what you're thinking of. i have my mortgage, peco, aqua, tv, cc, trash, sewer all auto-detucted from that account. it's making me very little little right now but if interest ever exists again i'm all setup. get rich slowly.

if interest levels were what they were 10-15 years ago anyone would be a fool to not invest in savings accounts. .5 to 1% isn't worth the hassle for ME. i apologize for coming off as arrogant as i did.

i wouldn't knock it if you were putting it into an index fund or playing with stocks. you're going to get a better gain out of that. and with an index you have almost zero management as well.
