ok, never had one in 10 years in philly, and don't think you can take out a mortgage and charge it every month

the question is why you would have 1500 in your checking.

I've done enough yelling and arguing today, so realize that I don't particularly care about this BUT:

If you maintain 1500 dollars in your checking and you "have" to keep it there in order to not be hit with a fee then philosophically, is it even yours to begin with? Well, yes, because you could take the money out and use it. But if you never plan on leaving your bank, and you "have" to keep it there, then again, is it yours?

A real world example. My wife and I maintain two checking accounts at the same bank. They both have to keep 100 dollar balances or we get dinged 10 bucks for going under in a month. This results in end-of-month headaches of making little transfers to ensure we never go under 100 in either account and of course we probably forget once every three months or so and get dinged 10 bucks. We could alleviate the problem by simply combining accounts and only having to maintain 100 dollars instead of 200 dollars. But we're willing to have 100 dollars held hostage so that we can maintain the two accounts.

This could also simply be called "inventory" in business. Having to keep a lot of inventory is generally looked at as inefficient/necessary evil.

So hey, if you really like your bank and it hasn't caused you much headaches, then by all means, stay in that bank. But constantly having to maintain a 1500 dollar balance is a big ask and arguably you could do things better,

got to be honest, drinking, bowling, groceries, and dating is on my card. that adds up, but i pay it off every month. after a few months, it adds up and i get points. luckily M&T doesnt charge me to have a checking acct, except if i use an outside mac.

that's fine, and good way to spend that money. but when you have at least $1250 coming in housing and other expenses, it makes sense you'd have more in there each month
