Is It November Yet? Politics Thread

the wilfs had an item on their term sheet that would have given them 5 years (from the first vikings home game) rent free should they choose to bring an MLS team to minneapolis.

it was smartly voted down.

warren limmer, get after it!

Why do you care what the Vikings do? Is that your team? Thought you were a Dolphins fan.

I don't know why you think it was smartly voted down but the chance of MLS choosing to go to Minneapolis was precisely 0. Minneapolis isn't in the top 10 of markets they want to get to and, by definition, they wouldn't be playing in an SSS so there wouldn't even be a good deal for MLS.

Then throw in the franchise fee would be in the tens of millions of dollars and it seems like Wilf would have been the losing party. Like me offering to pay your rent so long as you picked up my car payment.

im interested in public funding of sports stadiums. why are you interested in what im interested in?

the clause was written to give a relative of the wilf's exclusive rights to bring in an MLS team for 5 years, and that team would play rent free for 5 years. i don't think that's very smart.

Hey, I think it's adorable how you jump from hobby to hobby like the renaissance man you fancy yourself to be. But I know more about MLS than you do, so you and Minnesota should consult me.

And exactly how many people know who the fuck warren limmer, the fine STATE senator from district 32 in minnesota is. It's like you're talking to yourself.

And that's before you consider that Wilf has 0 shot at bringing MLS in to Minnesota in the next 5 years. 0 shot of it. They wouldn't even have a soccer specific stadium. They're like 20th on the list to get a franchise. AND MLS franchise fees are pricey.

hows the view from way up there?

i wasted 4 years of schooling on this. i have an interest. i dont discuss my own politics on this board, or really with anyone. it doesnt mean im not interested in the process, and public funding of stadiums is something that has interested me for a long time.

your fascination with me is flattering though.

Great, glad to hear it, it would just help if you explained your point. I'm interested in this, I don't want them to get so much money, some senator named so-and-so is leading the fight against it. I like him.

Don't get snippy just because I called you on it.

Ocean City, NJ stays dry - 3200 to 1400. Holy cow that's a whipping.

you know of course that public funding of sports stadiums never makes sense on the economics.

I think there's some kind of statutory requirement that econ majors must write at least 1 paper on the topic to complete the degree requirement
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

My uncle won a race for Montclair, NJ council tonight.

Pretty fucking excited for him, though he might be the biggest liberal I know. He's also one of the smartest people I've ever met, so this is neat.

Is that a township? Local ppolitics suck the life from a person. My dad is on our towns council and he cant stand the other members. It has surely taken years off his life.

Good luck to your uncle.

He's 60 already and had a lot of fun in life, and hasn't been working too hard the past few years, so I don't think he's worried about the stress of the job. It's a township of about 38k people in North Jersey, not too far from NYC. The town has a bunch of financial issues, so it'll be interesting to see what they do in charge. Seems like their slate did very well (non-partisan elections, two slates were liberal, one was conservative).

Vitter might be the most widely despised Senator; it's likely one of the few remaining things that unite the body. Meanwhile I suspect Lugar was pretty widely admired and respected as an honest to goodness problem-solving legislator.

Vitter won reelection easy; Lugar's going home. These weren't surprising results given trends in the political culture.
