Is It November Yet? Politics Thread

Big night on Twitter. FHQ responding to a tweet from me and MysteryPollster responding to both of us.

Also TPaw signaling that the campaign is ready for Rick and Newt to drop out. Something they hadn't really been saying out loud yet.

smh

I'm sure you have some more abstruse point, but on its surface you seem to be expressing surprise that politicians repeat speeches, sometimes almost word for word.

I thought I understood that you've earned actual monies working for politicians?

On a different subject: that clip is an actual ad the republican party imagines will do them some good in 2012?

Oh, please. Like Mr. Monopoly and Shit Break don't say the same freakin' thing in every speech. Come on now.

It's not surprising that politicians repeat words and phrases in speeches. Stump speeches don't change much and you give the same one for a few weeks before moving on. When you're doing a one off speech like yesterday I do think it's unusual for year old lines to be included unchanged.

The RNC did a mashup of the old SotUs back in January and raised money off of it. They're doing so again here. I imagine the party got a decent response to the first effort, and this one's linked at the top of Drudge. That should do the party some good.

so you don't know that any $ was raised from it.

Help me with the imagination part. What sort of imagination does that spot appeal to? Serious question. I just cannot picture anyone reaching for their wallet, clicking on the "donate" button, as a result of enduring that curiosity

I'm not privy to the fundraising totals the GOP gets from their blast emails or clicks from their web videos, so I don't know that any money was raised from it. I was guessing they did alright with it since they're going back to the same well again. That's usually a pretty good indicator. I've seen it pop up a few times in my Twitter feed today, there was a link to it off the top of Drudge earlier.

People who don't like the president, again just imagining here, would be the prime target for such a pitch. Folks who think he's stuck sounding the same notes with nothing beneficial to show for it.

I wrote a long wonky reply to this and then realized "wtf, the Republicans very best & perhaps only 2012 hope is getting out the vote of people who don't like that infuriating, well-spoken brown man because they sure as hell don't have any chance of winning if it depends on scaring up enough people who actually do like the nominee from its party".

Mitt Romney's taken the lead in PPP's newest poll of Rick Santorum's home state of Pennsylvania. Romney has 42% to 37% for Santorum with Ron Paul at 9% and Newt Gingrich at 6%. The numbers represent a dramatic turnaround from when PPP polled the state a month ago. Romney's gained 17 points, going from 25% to 42%. Meanwhile Santorum's dropped 6 points from 43% to 37%, for an overall swing of 23 points in the last four weeks.

Rick, it's time to pull the plug
