If I were a prof I really wouldn't care if my students used that trick. I sure as hell used it my fair share of times. Also, chance are, if I'm a professor I'll be grading problem sets and not essays. Also the chance of me being a professor are pretty low at this point.

[tmac] and hey, speaking of writing papers [/tmac]

So I have this group lab paper for a journalism class. I hate group papers so much, but on this one, I'm with an overachiever who took the lead, which is a nice change for me, so I just followed her lead on it. Last time I do such a thing. Not only is the paper due tomorrow (and not next week like she seems to think it is), but the draft she sent me as what she thinks is a third of the paper is doubly as long as the entire paper it's supposed to be. So yeah, this oughta be good.

I don't know if I'd automatically mark down for it. If the rest of the paper was OK then I'd let it slide, but maybe mention it in the comments. If it was clearly garbage then I'd grade more harshly.

When you're confronting a stack of 60 papers, you're not going to check the font of the period. You're not going to mark every spelling or grammatical mistake either. You're mostly going to ask yourself why bother assigning papers in the first place when you could assign multiple choice tests instead.

Finally. 1 1/2 months since I've had any publishing work, and I've got a nice 700 pager landing on t'desk tomorrow.

Who would have thought in these times of economic hardship that a high tolerance for the fantasy sub-genre would prove so valuable.

(I'm using tolerance in the loosest possible sense there, mind).

Clealy you're not familiar with the rules of genre fantasy. If it's less than 400 pages, it's not worth publishing. When I worked as an editor in London, we had one title that had a new kind of glue tried out on it because the printers had never bound 1100+ pages in a royal hardback format before. They probably do that shit without blinking now.

besides it's obvious that that "bible" book didn't have any proofreaders. They could've used a good Wiz.

- While it may appear to some that WWE has halted CM Punk's push or put him on the backburner, sources say that is not the case. WWE officials were very surprised at new merchandise numbers for Punk. Punk is now one of the company's top sellers and is neck-and-neck with John Cena. In one demographic, likely males, Punk is on pace to pass Cena in sales.

Because of Punk's success coming out of the summer storylines, WWE officials are now actively looking for ways to monetize him. WWE Studios are looking for projects that Punk could star in and there is talk of doing a CM Punk book, in part because the company hasn't had many books lined up as of late. There are also plans to release more Punk merchandise soon. Punk is also planned to be a bigger part of WWE programming and pay-per-views going into 2012. Word is that the company will be going "full blown" when it comes to Punk.

Regarding creative plans, Punk is scheduled to headline several upcoming pay-per-views with WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio. There's no word yet where John Cena will fit into the feud, if he will at all. Some have questioned WWE's booking of Punk as of late but it's said that WWE is trying to build sympathy for his losses as a part of something bigger.

This professor also requires that, but he's already got the margins at 1.25 so I'm runnin with it

When you're teaching, you won't care about the length of the paper. You'll care that half the students don't know how to structure a coherent argument.
