Portman and Camp are smart. Toomey and Hensarling will make the base happy. Kyl and Upton are there to fill the Washington stooge quota I guess.

Camp may be smart, I haven't seen any evidence on health care generally. And he sure looks like a straight party-first guy - so his smarts may not matter.

Toomey's a loon

EDIT: wow, I have no idea what health care knowhow will have to do with Camp's role on this committee

Serious question - Do any Dems who supported Obama in the primary wish Hillary was president now?

Not really, because I still don't like the idea of hereditary dynasty any more than I did four years ago. But I'll admit getting one thing terribly wrong: I thought the Republican tendency to deny the legitimacy of any Democratic president, and to deploy massive resistance against any Democratic initiative, was much more about hatred of the Clintons than it evidently is. She might not have had an easier time than Obama, but I don't think--I don't know how--it could have been worse.

I feel it would have been worse, because of the history, because it would have been endlessly regurgitated, and because many a dem has twinges about the - shall we call it "complex"? - characters of both Clintons, whereas Barry fairly sparkles with integrity by comparison.

But she probably would have been a better negotiator, having no illusions about the possibility of compromise.

I'm glad he won, but thoroughly underwhelmed.

When in doubt about riots, blame single parent families and promiscuity. It's cheap and effective!

Oddly enough, that same thing just happened in Philly in response to our recent rash of mob attacks. Although, honestly, I can't really gripe with the mayor's comments.

No, but I do admit that I have been more than a little disappointed with President Obama's performance. That said, I feel like I have no choice but to support him in 2012 because the GOP is running nothing but extremists and those who will do little but coddle the wealthy for four years. I cannot believe I am about to type this but if I had to choose between Obama and Christie right now I would seriously consider casting my vote for Christie. I cannot imagine myself voting for any of the current GOP field over Obama though.

I've been visiting family for the last week, and my dad for reasons I cannot fathom watches a lot of MSNBC. I think the amount of attention paid to politics (as opposed to policy and issues) is ridiculous. There's simply something wrong with people who care about this Iowa thing, and the amount of attention MSNBC paid to the Wisconsin recall also seems to be targeted at a portion of the population that has some kind of pathology. I suppose you could say the same thing about Fox News, but I wouldn't know about that since my dad doesn't watch that channel.

I mean, I have a PhD in political science, and thus have a predilection to be interested in this stuff. But I really don't care about Wisconsin or Iowa right now. I don't care about how many people think Obama deserves to be re-elected either.

Hell of it for him is It will get worse if he makes any attempt to explain what he meant

Why? Because then he'll have to explain why his 'peopleations' are so very often better friends to some people (who look like him) than others (who look more like they have actually baled hay); then things could get ugly

I happened to flip on the debate at the outset of Bachmann's moments of fame - she's talking, saying words, but not any actual recognizable sentences. She's making Pawlenty look good, and that's not easy.

Yeah. Sullivan is giving the American public and its leaders WAY too much credit there. What kind of ivory tower is he living in?
