This was a hotly debated topic in my glory days at Dear Old State between the Yinzers and the Yousers.

Everytime I've been involved in this debate it seems everyone sticks to whichever one was around when they were growing up and absolutely will not budge. The pro-wawa people normally get pretty offended by the idea that its even a debate. I guess its one of those things where people just stick to what they are used to.

I think the main difference is Wawa has better coffee, fresher Tastykakes

10 years ago I would have said their food was better, but it's really slipped imo

But to TV's point, they've both raised the bar for convenience stores. Wawa moreso

I grew up in State College and I like Wawa better because they have better locations and operate stand alone conveinence stores. I can't think of a Sheetz that does not have a gas station attached. Also, like others have said, most Sheetz are located off major highways and a bit out of the way for the local people.

What about teh Curve! I remember parking in some guy's driveway and paying something weird like $5.78 per game ticket and drinking beer from a sand bucket

I've been to a few Curve R-Phils games, I don't even consider that area Altoona, more like purgatory between normalcy and depression.

Sheetz is pretty awesome, when I lived in the Lehigh Valley I used to go to the one in Bethlehem if I was up that way, but that wasn't very frequently. Turkey Hill in the LV is also solid, not in the same league as Sheetz or WaWa, but better than the generic quick stop type joints, I like the crushed ice they have for fountain soda. Quick Check in NJ is pretty solid as well. They have (had?) a buffalo chicken bacon ranch sub that is pretty much awesome, also self-checkout lanes which is half annoying and half awesome, plus their iced coffee is actually really iced coffee, not coffee flavored syrup that WaWa sells. I'm a pretty big fan of Royal Farms down here in DE and points south, the coffee is better than WaWa, and they have a store brand line of energy drinks that are pretty good and only $1.50/can, but their sandwiches suck.

I would rank it like this

WaWa
Quick Check
Sheetz
Royal Farms

Turkey Hill
7-11

Does Quick Check still offer fried chicken? It seems to me that where you come down on Wawa/Sheetz/Quick Check depends on what you want. If you're looking for a quick and convenient lunch, you might pick one, but if you need gas, you'd likely go with another. Outside of PA and NJ, are there beer options? The Quick Check I'm most familiar with has a pharmacy, which might give it a nod for some people. Finally, efficiency is key. In my experience, a busy Wawa can often get you in and out more quickly than a slow Quick Check.

Yes, but not as bad as Krauszers. It's been a long time since I've patronized a Cumberland Farms or AMPM, but I'll lay odds they still suck too.

I don't think so. The only quick check I ever went to that had fried chicken was across the street from my high school. I don't think I ever got it, maybe once after school or something, but that location has closed down. Every other one I've been in since only had the subs, breakfast, etc. I did forget to mention this before, but you can get breakfast sandwiches anytime at Quick Check, pork roll egg and cheese on a Portuguese roll after the bar = win.

used to go to Sheetz when I went to Dickinson and remember their sandwiches pretty good I was either drunk or stoned every time without exception. think Sheetz and Wawa are pretty similar and silly to argue over, like Sunni and Shiite or Star Trek and Star Wars

Lancaster County is kind of the intersection of the Sheetz/Turkey Hill/Wawa turf.

Sheetz has better hot breakfast stuff and "sides" (fries, etc.), as well as automotive needs and dirty mags.

Wawa is better on hoagies and coffee.

Turkey Hill for desserts and cold beverages.

The 7-11 near me has this new coffee center in the store with a lot of different flavored coffees brewed at all times. And they have those fake espresso shot things that you can pour into the coffee for free. I can get french vanilla flavored hot speed for $1.50. I went there a lot in the past week.

I just realized that Yemen is one letter away from semen. But they don't rhyme. Unless I'm pronouncing one of them incorrectly.
