man, the football gods fucking hate me

my best Super Bowls were the Ravens', Patriots' over Panthers, and Green Bay's

There's quite a few heartbreakers on there

3 Cowboys Super Bowls
Steelers over Seahawks
Bucs over Raiders
oh yeah and the Eagles

basically everyone should put money on the Steelers

The reason I stopped ranking going back is I was embarrassed to admit I rooted for the Cowboys against the Steelers and Bills. In my grade school days I took a lot of pride in the NFC's streak, partially I guess because of the Giants role in it winning as an underdog in 1990, but also just because it was a cool streak and fun to root for the winning team every year. I legitimately don't recall how I felt about Falcons-Broncos, but I was pretty heartbroken when the Packers lost to the Broncos. And was pleased when the Niners, Cowboys, Redskins and Giants won.

The first Super Bowl I remember is the 20-19 Norwood game. In retrospect that was a crazy weekend. My dad must have been absolutely obliterated driving me into school that Monday. We watched the game up in North Jersey (at a party that roasted a buffalo; my mom doesn't eat red meat so that was the first time I had non chicken/turkey/fish meat). After the game my dad and his friends took a limo into Manhattan and partied. The next morning we woke up pretty early and went to a hospital in (or near) Montclair, to visit my dad's sister who gave birth on 1/27/91. My uncle seriously wanted to name the kid Victoria in honor of being born the day we won the Super Bowl, but my aunt had the good sense to say no. After that we headed south and he got me to school in Medford before lunch. I was disappointed that no one else in my 1st grade class was as pumped as I was.

see i never got the "Root for your conference" thing because I hated some of those teams. especially, obviously, the Cowboys. i knew to hate them so early on. i remember my 2nd grade recess being turned into some bizarre Lord of the Flies-esque drawing of allegiances, with marching in formations and chanting the team of our preference. i was one of like four dudes who chanted "BUFF-A-LO" (which is a way better chant than "DAL-LAS" anyway)

so the NFC thing really only came into play with the 49ers and Packers and Falcons and those were mild allegiances at best. the 49ers i liked because they were always playing the Cowboys. Packers had Reggie White. Falcons...I had a Dirty Bird phase. back in those days, i'd identify like four teams i thought were going to be awesome by video game standards, and I came up with the Vikings, Falcons and Jets one year (Jets had Testaverde's good year with them). those teams, with Denver, were all championship game participants. and i kind of liked them all because of video games.

I guess I had a negative thing with the Bills cause we played them in the Super Bowl. I dunno. I remember being confused at the neighborhood Super Bowl parties wondering why I was one of the few people rooting for Dallas as a 3rd-4th grader, thinking people were disrespecting the NFC. There was a Cowboys family in the neighborhood actually. The dad got addicted to oxycontin a few years ago and has been in and out of jail. Cowboys fans, pfft.

Whenever I drive by a car with some Cowboys logo or fucking decal on it I wonder how the hell they don't get their tires slashed or windows busted on a regular basis

some dude I used to work with at UPS (I was a loader, he was a driver who was particularly cool with the loaders, he'd actually help out with us sometimes)

he'd always walk in wearing a jersey. every day i think. but he also claimed to be both a Cowboys fan and an Eagles fan. no, man. that's not possible, dude.

that's like gender

like, male or female. you can't be both. transgender, i know, but they still identify with one of those two. you cannot be "sort of male." you can't identify as "both male and female." you can't be both an Eagles fan and a Cowboys fan

meat, i apologize for hijacking the thread, i didn't see your post first time around. sorry to hear about the hypothetical. i would definitely move into the city. you need a brand new life and putting that together in the suburbs is not something i'd wish on anybody.

i got a bunch of ex-lancaster-ite friends in the italian market area, they love living there and i love visting them.

It's the worst when your friends won't back you up in a situation like that. Feels like you're abandoned almost. Went through something similar about 9 months ago. Moving 1500 miles away helped, I suppose.

that's probably more accurate. imagine there's one of those big squiggly line things between 9 and 10.

meatball- sorry, broseph. i still have a crush on you, for what's that worth.

if philly -> hey, i grew up in pennsport- it's the other side of washington ave (basically an extra three minute walk from queen village if you're north of wharton street*). if budget is a big concern, consider checking into some places for rent there, you could likely get a row home at a good (or cheaper than center city) price. hypothetically.

* i know this, because my best friend lived on front & queen
