lawrence o'donnell is the worst. i can take dumb rhetoric, it comes with the field, but he just fellated himself about buying desks for a malawi classroom. there's a way to raise awareness without being condescending. this just put me over the edge, i'm now avoiding his show at all costs even if that means i have to watch decoded on the history channel.

Eric Cantor's planned schedule for the House: For every two weeks of work, take a week off.

This is going to be a very productive Congress.

tonight's daily show was a pretty good assault against the craziness surrounding filibustering the 9/11 first responder's bill. he had some guys on that really explained it for people.

People who give a crap about social issues always amaze me. Real legislation...as if the tax bill that is going to have a huge impact on the country's economy is small potatoes compared to whether gay people can serve in the armed forces or whether hispanics can morph into citizens if they learn the right cheat code on nintendo.

i care about rights, SUE ME

the republicans have acted like petty fools so they wouldn't see the tax rate increase a couple of percent back to what it was for income over 250k. everyone was already getting a tax cut, but they wanted to ensure their pals got more than their fair share. they disrupted the lives of tons of people by refusing to extend UC for many who were already entitled to it. i just spoke with a lady who was evicted from her apartment yesterday because her UC ran out and she was unable to afford her damned rent. that is directly due to this stunt. the sky was not falling for those profiting by record numbers and yet it became their rally call that somehow keeping the status quo would 'save' the economy. what could improve the economy is not the stuff for which they cared about in that bill, but it will be the stuff they held up.

please don't tell me i'm the one that doesn't care about economic issues.

rights of citizens, however, immediately affects the lives of many people who would be able to stop lying to their fellow servicemen, who could get coverage for ailments, who would be on a path to citizenship, etc. i fail to see how these life-changing events are meaningless

please go back to the kids table and count some votes or something

unless you have genuine convictions about this materialist pose you're striking, in which case we'll get into "real" issues like what "ownership" should mean, and shit
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

So the bill yesterday will keep ladies that pacino speaks with able to pay their rent

I think that makes it more important than the DREAM Act or ending DADT

But see, it doesn't and they didn't need to have it do that. They could've just funded uc. But, it stopped for many people for near a month and interrupted their lives. The only reason this lady may stay in her place is because of an emergency shelter allowance. It's no thanks to the thugs in dc. They created this situation which affected lots of people. These numbers of unemployed we hear about are actual people with needs outside the vacuum of political battles and theory.

These dc bastards think it's all some big game. If i see john kyl smirk one more time and have faux concern i may have to gouge out my eyes.

I'm in absolute agreement. By all means, let's let the political conversation revolve around economic issues in this country.

So . . . please tell your Republican friends to stop pushing social issues down our throats. I feel like I'm in bizarro world. If cynical and/or bigoted Republican pols didn't think they could make political hay out of vilifying gays, etc., these "social issues" wouldn't dominate the conversation.

I think the Thomas Frank ("What's the Matter With Kansas?") thesis--that Republicans run as cultural populists and govern as economic royalists--is probably somewhat overblown, but he's not wrong that the fundamental unpopularity of Republican economic positions gives them a permanent incentive to talk about pretty much anything else. God, guns, 'n' gays are the traditional choices, unless there's some foreign enemy to demonize.

The problem with the Frank thesis is that the Democrats have been as enthusiastic as Republicans in screwing over the middle class.
