Yeah I don't think there's ever been a good one. I haven't watched any of the speeches tonight, but there's a positive reaction from the conservatives I follow on Twitter about Ryan's performance.

I'm watching this on DVR, and I just got the part where Obama tried to make Boehner cry. Best part of the speech!

Word's getting around that the "response" hurts more than it helps. I heard earlier today that Ryan was the choice after Chris Christie, Marco Rubio and Scott Brown turned it down.

How does one 'disagree with virtually everything he (Obama) said in this state of the union tonight' as Joe Walsh did (R-Il) tonight?

The only SotU response I've ever been impressed with was Jim Webb in 2007.

It would make more sense to do it the next morning--so it could be an actual, y'know, response, rather than preset talking points offered immediately after the president's, in a much less compelling setting.

I thought Ryan did a reasonably good job. He was quite disingenuous in suggesting stimulus spending during a Deep Recession is a bad thing or that it didn't help. Bachman likely advanced her cause by appearing to be less crazy than she normally does. Free national publicity for her presidential ambitions.
We now know that Amaro really is running the Phillies. He and Monty seem to have ignored the committee.

he didnt mention that he wants to get rid of medicare (and drive seniors into poverty), probably at the behest of the rest of the republicans who still want a job

I'm not kidding. Kill me.

Pick the one of your choice, research it very well, and then challenge him on it. At the very least, you could subtly ask during class where you can find out more information on one of the crazier topics. When he sends you to some insane website (or more likely, doesn't have anywhere to send you), you can say something that lets the class know how crazy it is to have a prof teaching stuff that's dismissed by any serious treatment of the material.

Seriously, this is your education. You have a right to have someone competent teaching you. If you don't feel comfortable challenging him in class, then talk to the department head or write a letter to a local or school newspaper.

Was he really crying again? Seriously, wtf? I'm starting to think he's genuinely unstable. It's not normal for an adult to cry at the drop of a hat all the time. Is he depressed? A drunk? Insanely sentimental?

Imagine if you worked with someone who started crying in the office all the time. Would you feel comfortable putting them in charge of the office?

At first it was just funny, but this is starting to get a little concerning.
