Yeah, pretty much. At my company we have IM, and that is what you use to contact people if you want to get something done. email is for forwards and long winded important updates that no one reads. And phones are dead man, I don't even know my extension and I've been here for a year.

i use email as my primary form of communication at work. The problem is people not checking it. They then answer me by coming to my desk and jnterrupting other work im doing.

Exactly my original point. It's virtually useless

if anyone has 'world points' on their credit card, what's a worthwhile way to spend them? I see gift certificates and I see gift cards where one can use them anywhere...anything else? most merch looks overpriced

I used e-mail in college all the time. It was the best means of communicating with professors when I was off campus and needed a question answered. Most of my profs would check their e-mail every half hour or so if they were in their office, so it was actually a very efficient way to get answers. I doubt it's changed that much in a little over a year.

You being a SAMS guy I figured it would be something like that. Yowsa. That seems like a real puzzle palace. I was with a division HQ once and I thought that was bad.

I don't know what any of those terms mean, but I hope its good (relatively). Good luck. Stay as safe as you can.
I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater.

My professor also today said that the country was in recession in 1983-4 even as Reagan was winning reelection, and that Bush's poll standing improved after the late DUI leak in 2000. I told him he was wrong on the latter, and bit my tongue on the former.

He also told us we were all getting A's in the class today

It was kind of a weird morning

What did you think of Milt?

We spent 45 minutes assembling our course packs from three different piles that were in no discernible order. The whole class was pretty amazing, but that stood out.

Just don't ever get in a care when he's driving.

I think it's kind of a one way street--students will use it to get in touch with professors, but they don't use it to talk to each other, and they don't check their e-mails for info from the university. Between blackboard, facebook, and texting, its utility on campuses is diminishing. More and more, the e-mails I get aren't really personal anyway. They're more like memos.

I'll be a whopping five miles from where I was during my last tour of Afghanistan in 05-06...literally on the Kabul International Airport.

Luckily I served on a Combined/Joint Staff that first time as well...I understand the environment I'm getting into...for better or worse.

Guys/Gals

Thanks for all the well wishes. Kabul is about the safest place in the country, but it's still damned dangerous. Some really nasty stuff going on as well, like the Taliban using some kind of pesticide/herbicide as nerve gas and pumping it into girls schools.

I haven't posted here nearly as much as I'd of liked lately, but this is quickly becoming - if not already - the best Phillies board on the Intrawebz.

I'll send some pictures back if I can...apparently the network over there is jacked up and unreliable.

I'm more concerned about how wife does with our two kids - both under three years old - than my own safety. Nature of the beast I suppose.

I'll be floating around for another month then will be scarce...

Trent

ISAF is the International Security Assistance Force and is the NATO HQ in Afghanistan...the Joint Command is one level below that...

SAMS is the Army's School for Advanced Military Studies. We lucky few who are selected for the school are Strategic Planners (insert joke here about "strategery") once we graduate...we're sent to high level commands for the rest of our careers to figure out "wicked problems."
