Vox's uncle is a teacher for the Camden diocese (in Camden). He's a truly decent guy, and he is burnt out after three years. The first two years were at a charter school for boys in Camden.

Teaching K-12 even under the best of circumstances is hard, and not for everyone. It's a real problem, one that gets little attention--teacher burn out and teacher retention. Now, whether anyone can teach in a dysfunctional urban setting without losing it completely is an open question.

If you're really willing to move, you might check out New Orleans. All kinds of stuff is going on down there, and I'd say it's worth looking into.

As an alumnus I don't really agree with it, and I'm sure it's been used for a couple dozen other schools, but I still like this quote on Urban Dictionary:

Johns Hopkins is like unprotected sex; happy you got in, upset that you came.

If you're looking to meet or even just admire girls you can do a lot worse than the First Unitarian church on a hot night with a girl group performing

So I'm remembering some stuff last night and I remember my buddy Duke. Sometimes when we were drinking a lot he'd start singing the Taras Bulba Cossack song:

If we drink we will die;

If we don't drink we will die;

So we might as well say what the hell and drink until we die;

Hey; Hey; Hey; Hey:Hey

(And when you do the Hey-Hey Hey part you also do the Cossack dance).

Anyways, Duke got us to sing that song and do the Cossack dance during the hey-hey-hey part and all that stuff and we all had a good time.

He swore he learned the song from the movie Taras Bulba.

So when I get back to the States, I notice one day that Taras Bulba is on TBS or some such channel. And I watch this whole stupid movie (Yul Brenner with hair and Tony Curtis with a hairpiece) and dammitttohell -- no Cossack song. WTFIUWT??????

So then I'm thinking the Duke might have been a little teched in the head and all that stuff.

But some time later, the Battle of the Bulge comes on TBS or one of those kinda channels and I watch it again. One of the best parts is when the young Nazi Tank guys who are all gonna die soon start singing Der Panzerleader whilst stomping their feet to inspire General Robert Shaw (who later became a shark hunter I believe).

Anyways, when the song was supposed to start, TBS or whatever channel it was cuts to commercial and there's no Panzerleader song.

I think maybe the same thing happened to the Cossack song in Taras Bulba.

So anyways, sorry Duke, for thinking you were teched in the head.

Also, I don't watch any more movies on TBS or channels like that.
