If you're willing to move, there are teaching jobs all over the place. I'm sure you could get a job in Philly. It's not as bad as people make it out to be, imho.

I want to at least start working on the Masters before I jump in full time. I don't think I could handle the first year of full time teaching and grad school at the same time. And substituting is good experience and a good chance for networking. I'm on the list for the same district where I did my student teaching so I'm already familiar with some of the people there.

And I know people that graduated with me that have already been hired full time. Just takes some work and extra effort.

Wouldn't rule out going into Philadelphia. But I've heard some of the horror stories, and my aunt taught chemistry at Germantown for 30 years and has implored me to not, under any circumstances, take a position in Philadelphia.

I would rather move to a different state(MD, VA, DE, NJ) than work in the Philadelphia public system. I would be more willing to take a position in a city Catholic school, even though the pay is much less.

Surprisingly.

Grand Forks is a pretty nice town, in all honesty, there's just nothing outside of it. The airport is about 5 miles west of town, and while driving my dad to it on Saturday, I could see for miles since it's just flat and barren. Some interesting tidbits about Grand Forks so far: there are a lot more Asians than I expected here(nothing wrong with that, just I found it odd), a lot of people come from Manitoba to the local stores, and beer/liquor is fairly cheap here. for reference, a 12-pack of Sam Adams was $12, and a handle of Captain Morgan was $20 at the local bottle shop. Also, a place down the street from me has $3 pints of pretty good micro brews from 3-6 and from 9-close every day.

Glad to finally have cable and internet, I bought season 6 of House on Saturday and watched almost all of it on Sunday, it's awesome. The rest of my time has been spent unpacking and watching Seinfeld DVDs. Today my car wouldn't start, turns out my fuel pump was bad, so I already had to drop $700 on that.

you sure do seem to have a lot of time on your hands to be on this forum? Do you have a job? Are you a shut-in?
