Spontaneously, or were you smoking while you gassed it up?

It was while I was mowing. I wasn't smoking at the time. There was a bunch of dry grass clippings that had collected on top of the deck and I think the heat of the muffler ignited them. I ran inside, got the kitchen fire extinguisher, and put out the fire, then sprayed off the whole thing with a hose and left it to cool and dry off. Then I finished mowing.

Here's my question...

During the Super Bowl, only about 100 million Americans watch the Super Bowl. What the hell are the other 200 million Americans doing?

In Canada during the Olympic hockey like 60-70% of their country was watching the game. Why don't 200 million Americans watch the Super Bowl?

I've always assumed that the ratings factor in the number of televisions in use and don't account for the fact that an abnormally large number of televisions are being watched by 15 people instead of the normal 2.3 people.

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to defend the dignity of Georgetown girls or feel awkward because my sister goes to Delaware.

Garretts is a dump. Lived up a few blocks up 30th St. for a couple of years after college. I think I've been there once, during a bar crawl.

A year and a half ago, I woke up at this girl's place on Super Bowl Sunday. When I was leaving, she asked me what I was up to that day, and I said, "Well, I'm gonna watch the Super Bowl with some friends," (obviously,) and she gave me this kind of puzzled, confused look. We never spoke again.

First deduct a third of the whole to count the millions of children who are under the age of demographic counting and the millions of old people who don't have control of themselves or the remote. The 100 million left who are not watching the Big Game represent the awesome American individualism that dictates that as a people all of us will never be interested in the same thing. The Super Bowl is just the extreme example to demonstrate the completely unscientific rule I just invented.
“There are no cool kids. Just people who have good self-esteem and people who blame those people for their own bad self-esteem. “

In my house, 1 person is watching, Another person is watching law and order or something, and the third person is on the computer, takes a bath, and then goes to bed.

amazed at how many able-bodied people that aren't pushing a stroller or with young children force their way into elevators- in my most recent encounters on DC's metro and at the mall. for real, these places HAVE ESCALATORS. since when are people too fat and lazy to walk to an escalator, and so selfish? i hate human beings.

This proves it. (Jersey, you probably didn't mean it this way, but let me indulge myself for a minute)

It it assumed that a person in the United States HAS to watch the Super Bowl. Culturally, football has replaced religion, which explains why we're so reactionary and quick to snap.

No data to support this, just my thoughts, but it's interesting. American football has become the new paradigm for what the culture situates itself around. It was religion at one point, for a brief time in the 50's, for a long, long time it was the pursuit of all things retail, but American football has shifted into the accepted center of who we are as a people.

Not a great thing, but I'm not so sure religion or retail was great either.

(I like to think the church does its best work when it is countercultural).
Together we will win this game against the evil Space Yankees! Eat Fresh!

Well, Mozy update. When we last left our heroes, I was wondering whether my initial backup of ~350GB was going to finish before the all-star break. I pared it down a bit (didn't realize "Parking Wars" episodes were still automatically being transferred from my Tivo to my PC) and got it down to around 250GB. It finished around the beginning of May, and was doing incrementals since then.

Well, something happened the beginning of June where Mozy had some sort of "filter error" and decided it needed to transfer everything again. Holy Moly, I don't know what happened to Mozy, but this this time it just accelerated like Cupcakes to the dinner spread. Started on June 4, and finished last night. As of Thursday, I had 100GB left to go, and it got all that xferred between Thursday and Saturday. My observations still showed the max transfer rate of 1Mb/sec (a little less than 2GB/hr). So whatever happened, this Mozy thing kicks butt now. Sign up! (it helps my stock options too!)
