Visited Portland. Seems ideal, if you like coolish weather in the summer. Portland SeaDogs play right there -- good food and beer in the stadium.

I love Maine.

Ditto on Portland. Old Port is awesome if you like nightlife & seafood, general atmosphere is more laid back than Providence, and cost of living is much cheaper.

Thanks, we're probably going to do a trip to both soon. Have friends in both places, too, so that helps if it's one of those choices

I think they're very different. You're likely to have a strong preference for one over the other.

I think that's the worst advice I've ever read.

I love Portland and Maine in general, but you have to be prepared for the summers when vacationers will make getting around on I95 and Rt 1 a bit of a pain. I lived there for a summer in Wells, just south of Portland and it can be tough at times.

And as an aside, my dad owns a pottery studio on an island right off the coast of Portland, though I've never been there.

I guess. Providence is basically New Jersey (not that there's anything wrong with that). I don't know Portland, ME at all but I'm guessing that it's not. It seems like that would be a good place to start, presuming you already know what New Jersey is like.

No, I meant from the vagueness of the response itself. It made me laugh.

swish, what about it is like NJ? I know most of the areas we'd be looking at would be a combination of waterfront housing with colleges nearby and being very walkable. My experience with NJ is limited to Cherry Hill/Marlton/Haddon Heights and then North Jersey

and it doesn't get any easier when it's over. i know multiple teachers who have not had their results reported to the proper outlets even though their paperwork was completed properly.
Fine. You wanna act like you're two? I'll act like I'm one.
