National Kick a Random Thought Day

On the Mother's Day tip, I really hate wasting five dollars on a cheesy card. I'm not enough of a pain in the ass that I won't just suck it up and do it, but boy is it stupid.

My mom actually got upset one time that I bought her a very well-designed but "simple" card; like, there was no long poem or flowing prose. Just a simple Happy Mother's Day message. She seriously thought I didn't love her as much or something because it didn't have some giant flower and a hallmark writer's words on the inside. She was all, "Is everything okay? The card you got me... ...you usually get me such nice cards." And it really pissed me off too because it was a fancy card from some swanky stationary store, and I thought it was nice, different, and quite aesthetically pleasing. At that point I realized two things: 1) Empty nest moms are seriously crazy 2) My son would never be an only child

My Mom has some weird Hallmark fetish. She, too, would probably be upset if I got her a seven dollar card from Papyrus or one of those yuppie/hipster stores.

I sent my mom flowers with a message enclosed: "Happy Mothers Day! Thank you for not abandoning me to be raised by the (hillbilly next door neighbors)! Your loving son, (Barker)."

Would that have gotten you guys disinvited to Thanksgiving and stuff?

The card I gave my mom was a jokey one about her always being encouraging, and on the inside it's a picture of a kid sitting on the toilet. She liked it.

My mother has a sense of humor with most things. She's just weird about cards. Joke as much as you want over Mother's Day brunch, but it better come with a flowery Hallmark card.

oh yeah, I got her a hanging flower pot an a box of chocolates. I knew I had to kind of juice it up this year though since I have money for once and also because my dad's birthday was last week and I got him two gifts. My mom gets really sulky if I give her something she doesn't love. It sucks.

I didn't get my mom anything, not even a card. I usually never do--I'm a horrible son like CalvinBall in that way, but I do make sure to call her and I think she likes that more. I called her last night, but she wasn't home so I left a message. Haven't heard back though. :q

I did not get my mom a card. I did eat dinner with the family though. I rarely sit down with them anymore even though I live with them.

I just hate greeting cards. The overly sentimental ones are corny, and if I'm being really emotional and maudlin I'd rather find a way to express it myself rather than letting some Paul Kinsey wannabe do it for me. And the funny ones are very rarely actually funny.

the cards with saggy old naked people mocking the persons age on their birthday are the only suitable greeting cards.

I really hate cards, getting them and sending them. We make cards now. The kids have a little fun going crazy with stickers and glitter glue.

Last week was just bad, not like bad things happened, but the kids and I were sick, and I couldn't get out of the house to get groceries or cards. I figure I should get a pass on the cards if I can't even get groceries.

Vox's mom came over yesterday, and even though we made dinner (and gave handmade cards), I think I'm in trouble because we didn't get her a gift.

And I didn't get a chance to call my mom, so I'm in the shithouse over that too, I'm sure.

idk if surreal is the word for it, but one of my RL friends posted a ZWR link on my wall and it made me smile. i really wanted to say, "OMG I KNOW THOSE GUYS LAWL" but had to hold back.

internet friendship is weird.

i can't wait for this week to end but i also have more things than i could possibly finish.
