Neither me nor my landlord are good at ending conversations appropriately. The result: awkward small-talk for 15 minutes while each of us makes small movements backwards. :|

I like to end my conversations with "Take it easy or don't take it at all." That seems to hold them over.

More than half the calls we get are either crank calls or people accidentally calling 911. I'd say more than half of those are from phones without service--that is, out of minutes or without a sim card. You'll notice in those situations, your phone will say something like "Emergency Calls Only" and the only number it's capable of dialing is 911.

Anyway, this chick in South Philly has been calling constantly for the past couple weeks. She just says "How ya doin'?" in what sounds to be some kind of Middle Eastern accent. The rest of what she says is pretty hard to make out, but it sounds as though she's trying to flirt with me. But she's calling from one of these 911-only phones, so it's impossible for us to stop her from calling because we have no idea where she's calling from. One time last year we were able to get a woman committed for some similar activity, but she was calling from a phone on Verizon's service and we could figure out where she was calling from. This one, no such luck.

It's unclear when planning this trip to UMD I opted for waking up at the ass crack of dawn tomorrow instead of driving down tonight and crashing on one of my old roommate's couches.

In a related story I'd love to be tired right now.

FYE at Broad and Chestnut has a shockingly solid vinyl selection.

I'm going back 7-8 years or so. My friend's sister was a nurse in NJ and moved out to Arizona. She tried to get a job there and they took a hair sample and she failed. I know they gave her a second chance or maybe she went to another hospital but she bought some kind of shampoo and passed the test. Maybe there was some kind of product on the market back then that the authorities made illegal and they were no longer able to sell it. Or maybe the tests started to include whatever was in it, but I definitely remember it being a shampoo because I used to talk to her on Yahoo's IM and at least that's what she told me.

Do you remember Tommy Chong from Cheech & Chong? He used to run a website that sold all of that kind of stuff. He got raided but there was no kind of federal laws that prohibited it so they couldn't charge him with anything- although he had gotten arrested a few years before for selling bongs over the internet and had to do 9 months. Actually it all went down in Western PA. I don't know if the laws have changed but if so, they aren't enforcing them. There are a ton of websites that still sell all kinds of stuff like that.

Thinking all year you were in line for about a $2,000 IRS refund and then finding out you're gonna break even kind of stings.
