I hope it's gone by NYE, at least.

The back is funny because you can't really do anything to correct it other than chiropractic work, which is usually only a temporary fix. I've had back pains that lasted for 2 weeks, but most times, it was only a day or 2.

There's really no differentiating them, either. I had worse back pain when the duration was shorter, but other times the short-term back pain was less acute. All of this talk about back pain makes me kind of glad I haven't bowled since May.

I usually bowl 3 times a week and have no back pain. preventive medicine is the way to go here. proper stretching, back and core strengthening exercises are a must. ask your doctor or a qualified trainer for the best workout regimen for you guys

Proper form helps. My form is awful.

What was the bet again?

I have a bet with PTOITWCFTPP that if Minnesota makes the Super Bowl I have to have an Eagles or Flyers avatar, and if New Orleans makes it, he has to have a Giants or Devils avatar. Of course these teams are 0-2 and 1-3 in their last few games.

Cinematic Titanic (what they call themselves now) is really good. Direct to DVD/Self Published, better movies, less censoring... It's really the same as MST3K but there's more people and no set-up or puppets or in-between skits.

"Cinemanic Titanic" would have been a cooler name. Though those guys aren't really manic, so maybe not.

Either way, I'll have to check that out. At least two or three times a year I find myself aching for MST3K to take apart some dumbassed movie I'm watching.

VoxOrion wrote:I don't think you have to be grateful if being mean or spiteful isn't part of your motive. If the giver's motive is to show off, or they are being really irresponsible with their gift giving, then I really don't think there's any reason not to be annoyed or a reason to feel guilty. I think Woody's got the right idea - if the person insists on being extravagant maybe you can convince them that it'd really get your rocks off (because they're trying to impress you, or at least make you happy, right?) if they donated to a charity in your name - either that or try and counter it by donating the items or "paying them forward" yourself (sounds like you already do), assuming the nature of the gift allows that. I know Church's do auctions and stuff to raise money, I'm sure hospitals and other organizations do as well. My uncle started this about ten years ago, it not only stemmed extended gift giving sessions but caught on.

Donating to a charity would be a great idea and would be something that I would really enjoy, but I don't think it would be very satisfying for the gift giver and wouldn't really get at the heart of the problem. I think the motivation is more than just the gift giving. It's the looking, finding, selecting, constant shopping throughout the entire year. Based on a few clues, I am certain that something I just received for Christmas was purchased within a few days of last Christmas. This is not unusual. I think the goal is to find something unexpected/surprising/unusual/absolutely perfect. So, unfortunately, making a request for something specific is not going to satisfy that need. What bothers me is that "making me happy" is not really the goal. Sometimes I get gift cards (along with a bunch of other stuff) and I always make a point to say, "Thank you! I love getting gift cards. It's my favorite type of gift. HINT HINT" However, a few times when I have received them I have also received an apology for getting a gift card instead of something purchased from the business ("sorry, I didn't know which size would be best so I got you this gift card instead").

It's not really a problem in my life. It is at most a minor irritation. I just have to get used to giving things that I don't want to charities shortly after receiving them. It seems like such a waste of time/energy/money/etc. but I have to focus on the fact that someone will like to have the things I don't want and the charity will get the money, so someone is benefiting.

One problem with this is that sometimes I/we receive art or other publicly displayed types of things that I/we can't stand to look at. There have been many things that, after unwrapping, I look at thinking WTF but I/we have to find a place to put it out/hang it up in case there is a visit.

1% is standard. It doesn't sound like a lot, but it can add up over time.
