I wept like some Random Mother (Random Thoughts here)

I had an old roommate whose parents both worked for publishers and he would just take huge stacks of promo books to Barnes and Noble and tell them his grandpop gave them to him without a receipt and he would get store credit. Pretty douchey.

Ah, I forgot: in this country, only the consumer is allowed to receive the butt pounding.

no, the consumer is free to get the product at a cheaper price. all the above does is make companies lose money and change their policies, which screws everyone else

Most retailers have a similar policy for the Christmas and post-Christmas time, though not written. They're for gifts that people don't want, but don't have receipts for.

The policy gives them a store credit for the lowest price charged in the last 3 or 6 months or something, so without a receipt, you're not getting anything close to full value.

no, just in certain positions. i'm sitting here fine, but if i lean a certain way it's uncomfortable. and if i have to bend over for something it can sometimes lead to a flash of blinding pain.

I used to have the same problem when I bowled in college. Usually went away in a couple of days.

Sweet, that's encouraging. Especially since it started when I was drunk on Saturday night and if I had to explain to a doctor what happened, I'd have nothing to say.

I hope it's gone by NYE, at least.

the ones i used to get would last 2-3 hours, then soreness for a few days. worst one happened while i was out on a long run, ended up laying on the side of the road for an hour until it went away. that was awkward.

Bought a high-def TV last week, hooked it up this afternoon and failed to understand why the picture looked no better, arguably worse than it did on our old set. Eventually I was told that I need to upgrade my cable box, which does make some sense.

I'm not denying it; I'm just not faulting someone for taking advantage of an obvious loophole, something for which he will assuredly not be punished.

If you leave the door to your house/apartment ajar, and your place gets ransacked... sure, what the thieves did was wrong, but I also have no sympathy for you because you took no initiative to prevent the thievery.

I also side against businesses because they routinely gouge their customers, so it's nice to see some retribution once in a while. Best Buy can suck it.

The problem here is that Best Buy evidently has to pay for the sins of other, more obnoxious businesses--and that its own relatively liberal policies open the door for them to get screwed. This isn't a great way to entice more businesses toward customer-friendly practices.

WTF?

I can't even believe you're serious with that.

If you get mugged, should I not feel sorry for you because you didn't arm yourself sufficiently to defend yourself?

So if those guys at the IHOP had fucked your shit up the other night we shouldn't have sympathy for you because WTF were you doing out that late anyway hanging out in a place that had thugs there?

I'm simply saying I have no sympathy for someone who got robbed after making a habit of leaving his front door ajar. You're asking for it. Best Buy, in this situation, is asking for it.

I don't think you'd be wrong to lack sympathy for me in the situation you outline above, especially if I knew the details of the situation.

I think you can make a strong moral argument that what the person in question did was wrong. I'm certainly not denying that. But without punishment, I don't begrudge for taking advantage of it and certainly don't judge him for doing so.
