This is common for someone in your profession? I'm a little surprised, but then again, I'm not.

It's not that common. I honestly thought I'd go ten years without having to do it. But when someone confides in abuse of any kind, I'm obligated to report it. It's the only thing where I can violate confidentiality and go to a third party, and in fact I am required to by church ethics.

When tweets are printed in regular news stories they should be translated into standard English.

There's less methamphetamine in the generic brand, joe know-nothing.

I was just reminded of one of my greatest Phillies memories - maybe you had to be there, but 45K people chanting "C C, C C" during the NLDS last year might have been the funniest thing that many people ever did at one time, ever.

Shouldn't have messed with that peanut brittle. All it did was screw up my teeth.

Although most of the national brands are the same as the store brand, you can sometimes taste the difference

I think my sense of taste finally came back yesterday, two weeks after the surgery. Before that, whenever I tried to eat anything sweet, it tasted like Nutrisweet or whatever that shit is called.

This has a downside: I'd lost something like 10 pounds after getting home from the hospital and people were telling me, with some confusion and even embarrassment ("am I supposed to say this to a heart surgery patient?") that I looked really good. Since I still can't work out, the strong likelihood now that I'm tasting "right" is that all the lbs come back, with interest.

Did they give you a drug that would have caused that?

Loss of sense of taste is apparently a common side effect of (certain kinds of?) chemotherapy. My wife had this problem during her breast cancer treatment. For periods after each chemo treatment, she really couldn't taste anything unless it was really powerfully flavored. I saw her dump salt into an already-unpalatably-salty soup until it tasted like nothing but salt, and I think the only meal I made the whole time that she actually liked was fajitas with a LOT of lime.

I think it was the anesthetic. Also, they gave me a ton of meds the first week, some of which I'm now off. Among these was Percoset for the pain, of which I pretty much limited myself to two pills at night before I went to bed. By late last week I was down to one a night, and since Sunday or so I haven't taken any. So that might have been it.

So I'm trying to help this old guy on the phone who thinks he's talking to the public library. I keep saying, "Sir, that book is about finance. This is the Philadelphia Museum of Art Library; we only have books about art," but he's just not taking that for an answer for like five minutes. I think he's still probably pissed.
