I was old enough, and I'm not sure that hype ever really existed. If I recall, he was somewhat known by not a lot of people as someone who wrote catchy songs and was way too open about smoking hardcore drugs and banging Juliana Hatfield, which made him interesting to the pre-internet indie press. I don't think anyone confused him with being a genius. I could be wrong, though, as I was smoking less hardcore drugs frequently in that era.

We have this crazy(mostly in a good way) friend of the family that is always doing wild things. He has always been been big into anything that seems nuts. He is one of the best outdoorsman probably in the state. He wants me to go snake hunting with him before it is too late this year. I think I am going to do it because I like nature and trying to find animals but normally of the turtle, lizard, etc. variety.

I probably am going to get bit by a rattler and die.

Are you sure he means snake hunting, or does he mean, you know, snake hunting?

Well I will clarify even if you were referring to trouser snakes.

He doesn't hunt snakes to kill them. I think he even keeps some as pets and I'm sure has some illegal pets. He is one of them really smart people that if you just talked to them for a second your first thought would be "stoner". The word "dude" was invented for people like him to use. I really don't know how he is a friend of the family. By family I mean extended family and all. He is the opposite personality of just about everyone. He is like that guy that always is sneaking into world championship games without a ticket. Maybe nobody in my family even knows him but they just assume he should be there.
Do it again!

It took me one year of ordained ministry to get to the point where I have to call children and youth on someone.

This is common for someone in your profession? I'm a little surprised, but then again, I'm not.
