I ask this to Bucky, because I want - Nay, I NEED - his answer, but you all can answer this too.

What is the purpose of a dishwasher nowadays (and how has this changed?) Now when I place dishes and cups in the dishwasher, I have removed any trace of debris, be it food particle or sauce/ketchup/mustard stain present on the object. If I don't, the dishes come out essentially how they went in, with debris or stain still present.

So that brings up the question of why do I need the dishwasher if I've just essentially washed the dish. I suppose I don't use as much soap, so the washer can serve as a disinfectant, but is that really the only purpose?

I somewhat assumed I just had a cheap dishwasher, but your post has made me question this. Also, my glasses come out looking so streaky/spotty, and jet dry hasn't helped. Please Dr. Bucky, help me out.

The dishwasher in my house now certainly isn't brand new (it was there when we moved in five years ago), but it's also not old and I believe (I'll have to check when I get home) it's Energy Star rated, whatever that means. It's a Kirkland brand (aka Costco) which I'm sure means it's made by the same people who make Whirlpool/Kenmore et all, and it's far from a premium model.

I rinse the biggest chunks off of stuff before I put it in just to prevent the drain from getting clogged, but otherwise, dishes go in plenty dirty, and it's very rare that anything comes out other than perfectly clean.

jeff, I think that just means you have a really crappy dishwasher. My current model is mediocre (I must rinse first) but I certainly don't fully wash the items.

The only way anything comes out of my dishwasher still dirty is if it's hardened on oatmeal in a bowl or something. You practically need to sandblast that shit. And my washer is a standard, came-with-the-house style thing with no bells or whistles (although why would you need your dishwasher to whistle, lol?)
you sure do seem to have a lot of time on your hands to be on this forum? Do you have a job? Are you a shut-in?

In the Adelphia? I'd say no. Hipster chicks aren't going to visit you at that address.

No, little apartment at 20th and Chestnut. It's small, and I'd rather not be that far West, but 525 including heat and water is pretty sweet.

Our new dishwasher is scheduled for installation in 2 hours. I would say it's a mid range model in terms of price--stainless steel tub, and it has this feature that according to the salesmen will let us put a cassarole dish in it in such a manner that jets of water will clean it no matter how much gunk is left on. However, I think it's important to note that gunk has to go somewhere. So, if you're in the habit of leaving your dishes with solid matter on them, you might want to clean out the drain area once in a while to avoid a sink clog.

If it's habitable, take it. The price more than makes up for the suboptimal location.

One bedroom or studio? Because a small one bedroom is one thing a small studio is another matter altogether.

And, there are hipster places in the area, right? Trio, Monks. Some others I'm sure. You can tell people you live in the Rittenhouse Square area.

It's one large room with a bathroom, so, a studio I guess, but that's actually better since I don't see much reason to have a bed and a couch.

I'm 95% at pulling the trigger right now.

If my mortgage was only 525 I'd probably have a big time drug and/or whore habit.
