it's not a "yikes" thing; it's only a "yikes" thing if you're one of those people who says they're "really into music." i know you don't listen to much, so it's really not. but there are plenty of people out there for whom it's pretty horrifying that they've never heard those bands.

No judgment here. There are probably plenty of huge Pavement or Huskers fans who've never heard of Joe Blanton or Ryan Madson (or Chase Utley and Brad Lidge for that matter). I couldn't name three college basketball players. Nothing wrong with any of that.

About the line at which I feel I can judge people for ignorance is, say, if they can't name the three branches of American government.
