I'm guessing the Starr gift certificate comment tipped you off.
I've made it to the Turf Club next to the stadiums in 10-12 minutes before and have lived in the same town in South Jersey (albeit 5 or 6 miles away from my parents' house) all of my life.
yeah the USC thing, basically. so how did you end up becoming such a huge USC fan?
You don't just pick a favorite team. It kind of comes naturally. The short answer is Marcus Allen being my favorite player as a kid and my dad always raving about USC and OJ Simpson from when he was in his mid 20's.
I went through a lot of losing seasons with them. I'll still never forget when an old friend (who is a HUGE Alabama fan) left something like 18 messages on my answering machine when Bama hired Dennis Franchione (who was the coach that everybody wanted at the time) and USC hired PC as their 3rd choice. Half of them were of him saying 1 or 2 words and then just laughing hysterically and telling me to pick up the phone because he knew I was screening his calls. Franchione didn't work out so well at Bama so whenever I bump into him I make sure to bring up the fact that PC hasn't exactly been a bust at SC.
I know the Phillies and Sixers have won championships in my lifetime but I was too young to really remember. When USC beat Michigan in the 04 Rose Bowl, I knew they would win 1/2 of the national championship so while it felt very good, it was bittersweet because the BCS screwed them. When they destroyed Oklahoma in the 2005 Orange Bowl for the AP and BCS championship, it was the best feeling of my whole life. I hope we all get to share that feeling with the Phils and/or Eagles in the very immediate future.
