Pretty fantastic, actually. She's talented and is very into whiskey. I'm fairly excited about the whole situation.

Do I dare ask what her particular talent is?

Textiles. I only saw one example last night, but she had me talking about them for most of an hour, which I never thought would happen.

The Popeye's at the Gallery is significantly better than the one at Broad Street.

I'm pretty sure it's conjunctivitis at this point. The question is, since I'm going to go to the nurse practitioner at the university, should I teach my classes? I guess I'll go first thing and see what Nurse Judy says.

Doesn't it usually just go away in a day if you don't touch it?

I want medicine. Also, since I don't really feel all that bad (maybe just a bit more cranky than usual) I feel like I ought to go to work. Nurse Judy will tell me to go home, and that will make it ok.

This new "lower sugar" label is effin' annoying, because they are replacing the sugar with Splenda. It's like some new secret code. It used to be that "Diet" = artificial sweetener. But it's not consistent, since my kids' yogurt is lower sugar but no Splenda. And now I'm stuck with a box of oatmeal packets that no one will eat.

I've been reading about sugar consumption as opposed to high fructose corn syrup. It would seem to me that a better option, for the food manufacturers, than putting fake sweeteners, like splenda, in their products would be to use real sugar as opposed to high fructose corn syrup. From the information I've read, since HFCS is not a naturally occurring sweeter, it is not processed efficiently or correctly by humans which leads to more weight gain and increased instance of diabetes. While sugar is not good for you, it's no where near as harmful as HFCS.

Are you saying nobody likes the Splenda oatmeal? Personally Splenda is terrific to me...I can't tell the difference between Splenda and sugar...even in lemondade and Kool-Aid....

Yeah, I've been trying to avoid HFCS in whatever we get, basically by buying the organic option whenever possible. The most galling use of HFCS is in bread. At my old grocery store they carried some disgusting organic bread that didn't have HFCS, but now I can get Arnold Naturals, which tastes as good as regular bread.

I just don't like artificial sweeteners now (as opposed to when I was younger and didn't know any better).

"You On A Diet" goes into the problem with HFCS. IIFC, it doesn't satisfy that part of your brain that craves sweet, so you just keep going back for more.

Most manufacturers won't walk away from the higher profits HFCS.

I understand that, but shouldn't their be a market for "real sugar" products? I would and do pay more for products that use real sugar as opposed to diet sweeteners or HFCS, but they are very hard to come by. If "organic" products have gained such a foothold in the market place when they provide no noticeable difference is quality or any proven health benefits why can't real sugar products do the same?

You're right, I remember reading the same thing, it's the reason you can chug an entire 2 liter of soda fairly easily but it would be pretty difficult or near impossible if you tried it with water.
