Still, Manuel had the quick hook and the bullpen allowed one earned run in 6 2/3. That should be enough for this team, in OFJOAB.

agreed, they should have been able to hit the guy and didnt. the defense was atrocious. obviously. manuel did the right thing. Eaton just set a bad tone, like he always does. The loss isnt squarely on him, but he shares some blame.

Can we afford to start Nunez at 3B tomorrow like he usually does with Moyer starting?

There are two Moyers listed at baseball-reference.

One was born in 1885. The other guy is named "Ed Moyer". </rimshot>

Moyer's got an Eatonesque 6.16 ERA in the 2nd half, doesn't belong on the team, and certainly doesn't belong starting the single most important game for this franchise in 14 years... you know, since he was about 40.

Or which version of dontrelle willis shows up.

I hate the fact that in a tie the 12-6 recorde head to head means nothing

Actually, 30, a year older than Eaton is. Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.

Even if Eaton was excellent - the offense scored 2 god damn runs...the OFFENSE shares teh majority of blame, period...2 god damn runs, no patience, poor situational hitting, whatever, TWO FUCKING RUNS

Eatons 'blame' quotient should be less than 15% easy.

See...that's what i'm talking about 'sucks the life out of this team' - are you $#@! kidding me? That's just insane

Well it sure looked like he did. He certianly made sure the crowd was silent early on. Players are human - they know who is starting and how he pitches.

And yet he's a step up from today's starter. Would you prefer Durbin? Castro? One of them might start Monday in the next single most important game for this franchise in 14 years.

eaton shouldnt be blamed at all, he sucked but the guys pitching in his place did a tremendous job and his badness didn't really have much of a negative effect on the game. bad defense was really responsible for 3 of the 4 runs, and it's sad that this offense comes up with 2 runs at home in the biggest game of the year.

I'd be all right with Rollins getting a ride up to NYC to get Dontrelle tucked in early

Stupid gets my dander up...sure eaton wasn't good today but to want to lay the lion shares of blame on a guy who pitched less than 3 innings when the bats didn't show up against a mediocre starter and mediocre pen is stupidity of the sort that should be limited to that other board

He did. But the way Chooch was throwing today, it might have wound up being fielded by Burrell.

I'd really like to believe that this was one day of jittery play--but then, they played like this for two weeks, dumb as well as sloppy, at the start of the season. One more day like that and they're probably finished.

John Maine had a 6.11 ERA in the second half, coming into today.
