I was at the high school. There looked like there was some tpye of construction going on.

Is the middle school anywhere close to the high school?

Those one type of Entenmann's donuts are possibly the only item in the world where I'd use the phrases "look like rabbit turds" and "totally f'n delicious" in the same sentence, with all sincerity.

why is that? I'm just asking because the last time I was there I was chaperoning a school trip and found the security measures absolutely oppressive. I know many of them are necessary and my reaction is colored by when I visited when I was younger and it was very accessible, but, still, I found something to annoy me at every turn and it just wasn't pleasant. You couldn't even walk in front of the Capitol building without feeling like someone was training a rifle on you.

But maybe you're just saying that the traffic sucks.

D.C. is one of the places on my "I would never live there under any circumstances" list, which consists of D.C., the entire state of California, the entire state of Florida, and New York city.

Today President Bush left for the G-8 summit of industrialized nations in Germany. This was just hours after Paris Hilton checked into an LA jail. Coincidence? Wouldn't we actually be better off if Paris Hilton attended the G-8 conference and Bush went to jail? :)

Is Upper Merion connected to Lower Merion? I don't think it is. Upper Darby isn't connected to Darby and there is no Lower Darby. The Phllies will not win a championship until the Greater Philadelphia Area gets its geography straightened out.

There's a guy on craigs list asking for "lawn seats" to Dave Matthews which makes no sense on two levels.

Brand new Pennsylvania and east coast resident that she is, my wife is so far unable to wrap her head around the concept of townships.

So Bryn Mawr, which looks like a town, feels like a town, and is what appears on our mailing address, covered by one zip code. All that makes sense.

But when I first told her, back when we were thinking about moving there, that Bryn Mawr wasn't actually a "real" place (i.e. no government, no defined borders, no services, no Bryn Mawr police force) and that in reality, almost none of the "towns" around where I grew up, like Havertown, Broomall, Newtown Square, Wallingford, and so on, are "real" places, that's when she got a little confused. So, wait, she says, you have no local government? No, that's provided by these structures called townships. Okay, then a town is covered by its township for that stuff? Not exactly, since Bryn Mawr doesn't have its township... it has three (Lower Merion, Radnor, and Haverford) across two separate counties (Montgomery and Delaware). That's where I lost her.

I can understand why it's confusing to her, though. The concept of townships is one that's pretty much unique to eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and one that, just from the example of Bryn Mawr, one town across three townships and two counties, is convoluted.

Scooter Libby gets 30 months jail time for "outing" a CIA operative and yet Simon Cowell remains free. Doesn't seem fair to me.
