Breaking: Cubs' Kris Bryant, Phillies' Maikel Franco have filed grievances alleging service-time manipulation. News: http://yhoo.it/1TwJeT5

Kris Bryant finished his rookie season with 171 days of service time. Maikel Franco finished his with 170 days. A full season is 172 days.
On May 12, the Phillies optioned their everyday third baseman, Cody Asche, to the minor leagues but didn’t recall Franco. He arrived May 15.

i think they were pretty transparent that they didn't want to start his clock too soon
is that against the CBA?

no, but it is likely to be a key point in the next cba negotiations. right now it makes sense for teams to keep a guy down. springer and polanco were two other guys who thought about filing a grievance but decided against it. boras is bryant's agent so that isn't too surprising. surprised franco got on board because he is represented by a relatively unknown guy.
