I suppose they could've left him in AAA.

I don't think he'll win that argument... the Phils will just say that the roster move for Franco was McGowan (sent down to LHV on May 15).

He's not going to win, but I feel for him. It's a bs rule. Bryant really got screwed.

Sorry for him, but it's a shrewd buisiness move within the collective bargaining agreement and I'm glad the Phils have him for an extra year

This is correct. The rules are the rules and they followed the rules.

Plus they can always blame Rube for it.

I can't believe that he doesn't at least nap. He looks like a napper.

Given the number of players that are called up for the first time each year, some of them are statistically going to fall a few days before the deadline. That's especially true when players are often asked to show a hot start in AAA before being called up, which pretty much makes it even more likely to have a few players called up right before the deadline. They would have to prove they were targeted because I bet there are a slew of other guys, ones without star status, that come up around the same time each year. I'm sure Bryant was kept down for service time reasons, but I can't see how he can prove it. Even more the case with Franco because he wasn't a sure thing and had a really rough September in the ML the year before.

On top of all that, he was 22 last year. He was called up at a younger age than like 85% of players in baseball.

so why the 3 day wait? couldn't find a hotel room for him? Penske truck wasn't available for moving his stuff?

This is silly. We all know the Phillies delayed his arrival to limit his 2015 service time. We also know that the rules are what they are and as long as service time days are going to be as important as they are, teams will continue to do what the Phils and Cubs did because it's in their best interests to do so.

For the new agreement, players should also push to have other ballpark personnel payed better. There's so much money in the game now. There's enough for both players and owners to get filthy rich and still have the other workers make a nice living.

They took Sean O'Sullivan off the DL. 3 days after Asche was demoted, Dustin McGowan was demoted to make room for Maik. Nothing technically illegal.

I know what I'd say.

It's not a binary decision for who plays 3B, Asche or Franco. They had other, internal, major-league-rostered options, including Cesar Hernandez, who played those 3 games (2 wins). They hoped that Hernandez would take the job, and allow Franco more seasoning. However, Hernandez, batting 5th behind Howard, clearly didn't have the power that our Revere/Galvis/Ruiz sinkhole lineup needed. Additionally, making only his 2nd 3rd and 4th starts of the year at 3B, they realized that, defensively, he was clearly better suited to a middle-infield, or super-utility rule, so they bit the bullet, and called up Franco.
