The Padres got Margot for Kimbrel, so anything's possible. But as an established name and proven closer, that's what Kimbrel was able to draw. Giles doesn't have that name value and recognition yet, despite the fact that going forward over the next three years, I'd rather have Giles.

it's simple economics, you will trade from a position of excess to obtain a position of need

BUT, i don't think we'll get any youngsters already contributing on a ML level, but blue chips are possible

that's why it's not a good time to trade, bc they're likely not getting equal value in return. There's no reason to trade him now, especially if it's for guys that haven't played yet

But Klentak also knows that, which is why he'd need to get wow-ed with an offer. It's a pretty great position to be in for a change.

Today is Rule 5 protection day. Phillies have to and almost certainly will protect Quinn, Tocci, Tirado, Cordero and Ramos. A bunch of teams including the Rays, Yankees, Red Sox, Athletics, Astros have a 40 man roster crunch. I was thinking that the Cubs might not protect Vogelbach but they sure have the room to do it.

Honestly, I'd be looking for a potential OF guy or a guy who could be a starter pitcher for us.

I've seen Bugs Bunny play multiple positions at once. But he was old school. These days, the youngsters won't do anything if they think they might break a nail.

Zolecki says Tocci and Tirado did need protection but the Phillies are leaving them unprotected. We shall see how this turns out.

The deadline is 8 pm. They might be looking to make deals and can add 1 or 2 of them at the last minute if they can't get anything done. They also have to have room for free agents.
