ridiculous walk rate. If he can maintain the walk rate, he'd only need to hit .250 to be useful (assuming he can play defense at all)..

I'd be good with that pick.

Hated Vogelbach as part of a Hamels trade but he'd be an excellent rule 5 pick. Could expect some Jon Singleton like major league numbers.

Good minor league record. Hurt a lot last year. Has fat hands.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

In order to stand with the French I think we should also get all of the Gilles. Well, maybe not Gilles de Rais:

He is best known for his reputation and later conviction as a confessed serial killer of children.

Just have to make sure we get more Giles and not more Gillies. We've had a Giles and a Gillies and more Giles will help with the rebuild, more Gillies will be like all of this falling on deaf ears.

Phillies downplaying possibility of trading Ken Giles. But teams that have spoken with them expect him to be dealt this winter or in July

what's the idea behind trading Giles? why would a team theoretically give us superior young players?

"Selling high". It's a chance for teams to get a young 100-mph closer under control for 4+ years at a whole lot less than $10M/yr, and the Phils can (hopefully) take advantage of the league-wide demand for bullpen help since they probably won't need a closer that often for the next two years

He's cheap in terms of salary and young. So a team that is getting close to its max payroll, or wanting to allocate assets in another area could theoretically want to trade prospects for Giles. Also since he's young, you are still likely to get his most productive years at under market value.

just seems like they'd have to give up a really sure-fire prospect for it to be worth it for us and no one does that

Yeah, it doesn't make sense as a trade for me, bc nobody is going to be able to give full value for him (a really young, really controllable player that has already had success)
