my parents built a nice house in a small village out there a year or two before Greece agreed to enter the Euro zone. Great exchange rate with Drachmas (RIP). Real old school country out there.

younger women are definitely skinnier over there and usually better versions of themselves than Americans. less super fat people in general, too, from my short time there.

i have to remind myself from time to time that i've actually spent more of my conscious like in the USA now. i haven't even been back since 2000 so now i feel kind of weirdly distanced from my "homeland." we barely have any strong family ties remaining either, so that furthers that feeling of alienation. it's weird man

all that said, i would say that as a 13 year old kid leaving the country, my main takeaways were that school blew (it was extremely hard and no extra-curriculars to speak of), there is a lot poverty all around you all the time, the food is delicious, it smells like something all the time, everything was extremely cheap, it was always hot and humid, bad traffic, pollution, stray animals everywhere, and cricket.

most of my lived experience was limited to a couple states in the east, though. i want to go back and visit many different places in the north, south, and west still. i never even seen the Taj Mahal or been to Mumbai

the festivals are just nuts. every state has it's own ones and of course there are the big national ones. Holi is unbeatable tho, it's coming up soon too

it's funny that you mentioned the Taj Mahal, have most people in India that you've talked to visited it? Most of my friends had never been to the Parthenon. Sort of a "take it for granted" thing. Have most americans visited the statue of liberty?
