I’ve heard similar things often when I went to church growing up, though probably not said quite like that. The gist of it being that being “religious” just means going to church when you're supposed to or otherwise just going through the motions, whereas actually being “Christian” or having a meaningful relationship with God means actually walking the walk and not just talking the talk (another phrase they liked to use). Sounds nice, but when said as condescendingly as this guy seems to have said it, it kind of defeats the purpose.
