Johnny Mize. He was an outstanding hitter until he was 34. After that he had six more good years. Also spent three years in the Army during the big one.


So why exactly isn't Mize in the HOF, based on his career numbers?

Moderately surprised Pujols never did the HR/K thing. He came as close as 1 in 2006 (49 vs 50) and 6 in 2004 (46 vs 52).

Yeah, Pujols was the recent hitter who occurred to me too. Goes to show you how hard it is to pull off. Swing hard enough to clear the fences and you're going to miss a lot.
