How come I never heard of this guy until just now?

Long career in 60s and 70s, NL player for most of it, Hall of Famer. Huh.

Huh. I had no idea Lando had a HOF career with the Cubs before leaving our galaxy.

Sweet swingin' Billy. He was a favorite.

Had the NL record for most consecutive games played until he didn't.

With Tampa's latest trade, Longoria is the only player left from the Rays team that lost to WFC

And the Phillies are down to 4? Utley, Hamels, Howard, and Ruiz assuming Kendrick's gone

I think it debuted last month, but I watched MLB Network's special, "The Third Team", where they followed the 7 umps that handled the KC/SF World Series. Good stuff, especially when they show the breakdown of the replay where Hosmer slid head-first into 1st to avoid a double play

The series had seven of the best (Meals, Nelson, Cooper, Reynolds, Barrett, Wendelstedt, Kellogg....not garbage like Bucknor and Barry), and it was neat to see behind the scenes where Torre calls each one personally to invite them to work the World Series and they're legit excited. It's also funny seeing what these guys wear to the games (Barrett is a pimp and Cooper wears football jerseys) and Wendelstedt talks about how he gets a WS ring to go with his dad's collection and can finally retire Harry's brush and clicker that he's used all these years. They also show Torre meeting them in the locker room after every game and giving them handshakes and hugs and all, and you can hear their conversations at the plate (including speaking Spanish to Salvador Perez!), at the bases between innings, Pence asking about rules he doesn't know about, how they handled the bench-clearing incident when Perez and Strickland got into it, etc. Just interesting stuff that they don't normally show

I don't see it on the MLBN schedule for the next week, but no doubt it'll be on again soon. Here are a couple video clips:

the Perez/Strickland incident
replay at 2nd
