I mean, the Phillies hosted in 76, then 96. Technically, with 29 other clubs, they got a turn early by hosting in 1996, and their "turn" shouldn't come due until 2025, so 2026 is more or less right on schedule.

Yeah, but it's surprising because CBP was new and never played host. CBP and the new Yankee Stadium will be the only two stadiums not to host.

pace of game changes have been approved

Players will be warned and fined

They also made changes to instant replay:
-- Managers must call for the replays from the dugout for 1st and 2nd outs instead of stalling and walking out to the ump. If it's an inning-ending call, the manager must come out to stop the teams from leaving the field
-- Tag-up plays are now reviewable
-- Managers retain their challenge after every successful overturn, not just the first one

wondering how the dugout call will work. Can they mgr yell out to the ump to wait while they look at the replay? Or are they forced to make a decision prior to the next pitch in normal cadence?

They should have to make the call on the spot that's the only way to speed it up

it could be sped up a bit by having everyone in position and the manager on the top step. They get a set time (maybe 30-45 seconds?) to give thumbs up or down. If thumbs down, they don't have to wait for the manager to get back and the umps to get back in position- they could have everything set to go pending the thumb.

Not saying that's my vote yet, but they still could shave a little time without an immediate thumb.

The teams have a replay phone. Basically they have a couple guys watching the broadcast on dvr and should phone down asap. Maybe the bench coach should have a headset on like football.

they actually watch one of the broadcasts, no DVR. So they have to wait for the replay to be shown on TV, often multiple angles. Even if they did have a DVR, they could only look at one angle that way.

Was that the intent of the challenge? I thought it was to give the managers the chance to challenge the call through eye sight just as the umpires do. If not, why not let the umpires call a time out to review the play themselves before they make a call? Its ridiculous to watch the managers hemming and hawing about for a while so that the coaches in the booth can watch the tv replays before the call is finally challenged or not. Either challenge the call immediately or let it stand. The same goes for the NFL.

Granted, a lot of it is because I'm watching the vast majority of games on tv rather than live, but the replay delay has almost never bothered me. At home, you're involved in watching multiple replays and wondering whether a call is going to be challenged and, if so, whether it will be overturned. So there is a certain amount of suspense involved and I almost never find myself urging them to get on wiht it already. Live, I can see where it's more of a problem since it's harder to know where they are in the process. I might even prefer that yoiu require the manager coming out, since that clues yoiu in as to what is going on.

I guess this a long way of saying "meh." I would like to see them aggressively enforce time limits to batters and pitchers, which I think is much more of a problem and has a much greater effect on every single game. I tend to be a traditionalist, but I'd be all for a (liberal) pitch clock and a limit on time outs. There would be a definite adjustment period, but this isn't golf. If you can deal with some bozo screaming at you abut your mother, yoiu can deal with staying put in the batter's box and facing the next pitch.

I don't even have a problem with the length of the challenges. They're usually not as long as some arguments used to be, and of course arguments are eliminated now, replaced by challenges. then again, arguments are "action," and challenges are boring and awkward, so...perception is reality?

good point swish, on tv the challenges still are 'action' since we get to play home umpire watching all the replays.

i read that they are also speeding up the batter. batters are required to keep one foot in the batter's box at all times, or something like that
