Phillies Thoughts: Randomness is Our Best Hope

This Nola guy the Phils drafted might be a decent starter pretty quick. He doesn't have a super high ceiling but he has a decent chance of being a pretty good starter as soon as next year.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

In as season where we were out of it early, Ruf started 11 games in September and October, Asche 14, and Dom 17, out of 26 team games. Ryan Howard started 22, hitting .203 / .315 / .342.

i'll continue to argue with your asche and revere assessments, but the above evidence of insanity at many levels of the phils management is why i have to concede to you the larger argument... on aggregate, they suck.

challenge... (especially for shore, but everyone is invited to participate)
without looking caldulating it yourself, guess where the phils starting position players (ruiz, howard, utley, rollins, asche, byrd, revere, brown) ranked amoung the 444 mlb players with 100+ pa's in 2014 in the following columns of my spreadsheet of b-r production rate categories:
pure offense runs above average per pa (batting runs + baserunning + double play tendency)
owar/pa (pure offense adjusted for the difference between positional average and replacement)
dwar/pa (pure defense adjusted for positional average and replacement)

p.s. should i move this to my war thread? start a new thread?

Burnett, Phils opt out of mutual option:

Had to change it to be clear it was mutual option, not his player option.

OK, so Burnett can still exercise his $12.5M player option. PREPARE YOUR ANUS

I don't even get how the mutual option works. Both sides have to say yes or its deemed declined?

yeah, i had the same thought. In practicality it seems like a team option.

I suppose if Burnett felt he could get more than $15 million dollars somewhere he could decline it while the Phillies wanted to pick it up. But, yeah, in this case Burnett declining is just like a "you can't fire me, I quit!" move. Except he doesn't have to quit. Or give up $12.5 million.

If Burnett was going to pick up the 12.5M option, why would he decline the 15M option?

i assume both sides had to agree to the $15M option where as burnett can vest his $12.5M option on his own.

2 OFs signed to minor league deals: Brian Bogusevic (traded by CHC to MIA for Ruggiano last offseason) and Darin Mastroianni (split between MIN and TOR)

Oh, I think Bogusevic is that hot guy who played for Houston at one point, at least I remember him in an Astros uniform.
