RANDAMARO PHILLIES THOUGHTS

The opening paragraph is great.

THE GENERAL manager who has failed to produce a winning season since 2011 insisted he has a realistic sense of the market value of the players. It is the general managers who are actually in contention for the playoffs whose valuations are misguided. This is the world according to Ruben Amaro Jr., a place where fundamental economic principles do not apply.

Agreed, but I would bet on some combination of Franco/Ruf/Howard at 1B.

Amazing. While everyone else was learning a thing or two watching Moneyball, Rube popped in The Natural and started looking to sign forty year olds with magic bats

howard (89)
b.butler (89)
x.bogarts (89)
d'arnaud (87)
victorino (86)
p.fielder (86)
a.gose (83)

e.andrus (79)
j.singleton (79)
n.swisher (74)
bjupton (74)
c.hart (72)
d.brown (70)

plenty of guys on that list that i or others would rather have aquired/kept at some point.
i just wish he could learn to play center or that the phils could see that he would have much more value in a corner.

oh, and i wish dom brown hadn't died. on the b-r lists he's 577 out of 586 in both owar and dwar and in last place overall. i was counting on at least +2bwar instead of -2bwar from him this season, even given his defensive woes. didn't end up having any impact on a playoff race, but that's a nasty 4 win disappointment. how bad is he looking at the plate these days? is their any hope of getting a positive contribution from him going forward with or without a move to 1b?

bless your lineups phorever and the time you put into them but it'd be major achievement for that one to reach 70 wins.

probably true if dom's bat doesn't come back and we don't land rusney castrillo for cf.
i had hopes for asche at 3b so that franco could be the new 1b, but that's not looking like a good soluion anymore.

Wow, I had no idea Cleveland hated Thome so much: http://www.cleveland.com/livingston/ind ... dians.html

Comments are absurd. Thought that dude was a legend there. Glad we liked him. Ungrateful piece of shit city.

It is kind of a weird decision from their front office. I'd be pretty ticked if the Phillies put up a Schilling statue, even if I generally still liked him as a player after he left Philly.

i mean, i've found 95% of the people i've met from ohio to be total mouth breathers; but maybe we shouldn't base our perception of an entire city and it's inhabitants on the quality of the comments posted on 'cleveland.com'?

And Schilling was awesome for us. But don't you reserve statues for the team all-time greats that essentially play their entire career there? Or at least their entire prime?

Let me be clear: I'm not defending the hater comments about Thome. Just the sentiment that it's a weird decision by their management.

I think it's all fairly reasonable. guys who leave right in their primes don't usually get statues
