I'd look for them to take some questionable signability guys in the first few rounds after 10. That way they don't have to subtract from draft pool if they decide they want to give some extra cash to the guy. It worked with Keys but not Jax or Martarano last year

One (admittedly unfalsifiable) way to view it would be possible new impact of analytics dept stats guys. Roob already stated he looked at Fausto because of advanced states rec (big ERA - xFIP gap last year). It seems like the A's of the world are all about college guys in draft with good K/BB for hitters (Sacto State guy fits this, though not Pepperdine guy)

I prefer to think of it as 1) they know they're all dead men walking, employment-wise, and are trying to leave something nice/safe for the next crew; and/or 2) they realize that their instructional staff in the minors are fucking *terrible,* and are taking players closer to finished products.
