the college pick criticism is really gaining steam and it's pretty dumb imo. they have quite a bit of hs and la talent at the lower levels, so i'm not disappointed they focused on college guys this year. they didn't reach on their first or second round picks, maybe a little on a guy they liked in the third and got great value in the fourth. would people be doing a dance if they took toussaint and gatewood in the first and second? that's not better than what they came away with.

i think fans would be happier with that because like kiley mcdaniel says, 90% of fans that ask him Qs on twitter want high upside overslot HS guys, but from a present value of future performance perspective, hard to argue with Nola. That's why McDaniel said he had Nola rated higher than Koley...Nola could be a #4 starting next year (his words), whereas there's a 50% or greater chance Kolek never hits bigs

the same people who have killed them (rightfully so) for not developing the high upside hs kids that has left them in this spot. they'll be filled with those types at williamsport and gcl so those people can follow them there.

For the record I prefer Nola and Imhof to Toussaint and Gatewood. But we saved a couple hundred K on two really off the board college seniors in the 9th and 10th and I don't see anybody worth giving it to after the 10th. Did we go over on McWilliams? Austin Davis maybe?

And if I have killed them, its for using high picks for athletic guys who don't have baseball skills. Not every HS player is like that.

I do hope they put some of these guys at Lakewood because right now we are setting for a 45 man Williamsport roster with a bunch of guys watching. Or maybe the oldest GCL team.

Seems like McWilliams will accept whatever. Davis is the one I think we need to go over on

yeah that's slightly annoying but idk if this new draft system changed the old dynamics. i think top 200 HS talents (with some rare exceptions of dudes who have straight up said they won't sign) just get taken in the top 200 now, leaving less out here in that range (between 6 and 15th round) that Phils used to get guys like Colvin, Singleton, Tyler Greene

I'm a big fan of both Scotty and Tanner.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

Phillies drafting all these pitchers with upside down W and sideways J and leaning teapot deliveries. Hope the MRI machine is all tuned up.

Post-Tribune article on Murray and the draft

“It’s a dream come true to be presented that opportunity to even consider playing professional baseball. Especially out of high school. We told ourselves all along as a family, hopefully when the time comes, the situation will speak for itself. Either to go down the road and play at the collegiate level or to sign professionally. There are a lot of variables that play into that whole process. It’s a really long process. A lot of things have to work out the right way.”

The South Carolina recruit has a 9-1 record for the Brickies. Baseball America lists Murray as the No. 385 rated prospect overall and No. eight in the state.

“It’s a win-win situation regardless of what happens. My commitment to South Carolina, that is also a blessing to go to an SEC powerhouse and play baseball there on a beautiful campus with a great coaching staff and top of the notch facilities. But also being given the opportunity to play baseball with the best of the best, it’s a dream come true to be able to be blessed with both of those opportunities.”
