It's a must-listen if you missed it.

They'll have it up at some point tonight.

Obviously, Brantt WOULD think that. People of this board might think that Miss came off as a douche. Still others might think of it as a battle between the Mets and Braves - everybody loses.

If you (not you personally) cannot at least admit that Ryan Howard is the premier power hitter in baseball, then how can anything else he said be taken seriously? He clearly had an agenda and made a fool of himself by refusing to admit that.

Missanelli told him that there are only two people in the history of baseball that have comparable power numbers in their 6 season........Law said that proves nothing.

That's just absurd. You can certainly make arguments against Howard's game, but to say he's not a premier power hitter is just embarrassing. He's averaged what, 49.5 HR's and 145 RBI's in his first 4 full seasons........those numbers are ridiculous.

Listening to it now, and Keith Law is embarassing himself. His bias is astounding.

Well, just listened to the interview, and yeah, they both come off goofy. Law refused to anoint Howard as the next Babe Ruth (which is fair), but then tried to argue that the Yankees wouldn't be putting up big bucks for a DH with Jesus Montero on the way up, which is pretty much ludicrous.

And I firmly believe that in 4 years, Ryan Howard will be a better overall player than Prince Fielder, purely based on conditioning alone.

What, in the hell, are you people talking about?

Here's the problem with the phrase "preeminent power hitter in the game today". It means NOTHING.

Brantt, chief, what are you concerned with? Winning games. Of course you are. Well while power is ONE WAY to win games, it's not the only way, nor could it even be said to be the PRIMARY WAY. The problem is that while the 50 HR are amazing, the other components of it are not. And therefore, on balance, there are several other guys who help a team win more than Ryan Howard. So yes, perhaps he hits more homers than anyone else. But unfortunately, that's not the whole game and the people who know what they're talking about, like Law, know this.

Missanelli's treatment of, essentially, a fellow employee, was embarrassing.

The fact that Law wouldn't even believe that Howard's power numbers in the last 4 years make him the premier power hitter in baseball was telling. Seriously, he's hit more homeruns, more RBI's than anyone else in that span and Law doesn't even acknowledge that.

I've been so happy the last few days reading NOTHING that has to do with the Howard extension.

One side is already a caricature, but the other side is becoming one and making this insufferable.

Wow, this interview is great. Seriously Law, do you need a dictionary to know what "preeminent power hitter" is?

They're both making decent points but Law just acts like a dick. Miss is a little dumb with this "preeminent slugger in the game" thing. But Law doesn't really make the point that he needs to make to show that it's dumb. He just kind of stonewalls Missanelli and that's where the argument ceases to be constructive.

Also, the Jesus Montero mention is pretty laughable. I mean, the guy could absolutely step up and be an awesome DH, but it's a little ridiculous for Law to bring him up like he's definitely going to be as good as Howard.

You can't have a rational discussion with someone who doesn't know who Adrian Gonzalez or Jesus Montero are.

But Missannelli said "preeminent power hitter," not "preeminent" or "best" player -- Howard IS the preeminent/best power hitter of the last four years, and to say Missanelli provided no basis or evidence for that is absurd.

To be fair to Law, however, Missanelli was the first one to get loud and also misquoted him on Howard having a "bad" OBP.

The end result is me being dumber.

I love that now Adrian Gonzalez is better than Ryan Howard because he was, until recently, underrated.
