Asche to Mouth and other random phillies things

I just got the BP annual. Tommy Bennett wrote the Phillies article. He thinks Amaro is a boob and the Phillies organization is stupid. I recall reading other stuff by this Bennett cat and it seems to me I liked his stuff.

I guess he doesn't think teams should try to improve by signing lots of old guys who aren't very good to two year deals or to ink an RBI man to a long term big money deal two years before you have to.

He just doesn't know baseball that's all.

Let's all take time to recognize that Jeff Manship has a chance of making this team

David Schoenfield ranking the MLB teams from worst to first. Started with #30-#25 today, and we don't have to wait to catch the Phillies. In fact, we were the 2nd team up, 29th out of 30, with a projected 66-96 record. Weee.

I was going to discount this, but the voice rings true as Bowa's.

I don't see how we're worse than the Marlins. OK they have some young guys that have been around for a year or two. Signing Salty and Furcal makes them better than us?

If it takes that to get rid of Rube AND do a revamp of the front office. I'd pay that price.

We outscored them last year by 97 runs, but they outpitched us by 103. They're young, we're old. Young guys more likely to improve than old guys. They upgraded their biggest black hole, catcher. They have Stanton and Jose Fernandez. I'd trade anyone in our outfield for Yelich.

So Rub, Ed, Pat, Dallas, Cholly and Benny can go on early evening Gulf bike rides while the nerds can finish their homework for them.

I mean, my bias aside, we've only been that bad two or three times in my whole life, with garbage rosters on balance -- not two aces, a good closer and what looks to me the makings of a mediocre offense (with some chance of decline but also of bounce back and/or 3B/RF/C gains). Obviously we have question marks in the rotation and pen, but also some decent depth and upside for a change, and on the bench. I really don't get it

As for last year's pitching vs. that of the Fish, we're probably not gonna give 300+ innings to Lannan, Halladay, Cloyd, Martin (while green), Valdes, and Miner, or have that comical shitshow of the first half of the year in middle relief. It's possible to get worse, I guess, but pretty difficult.

And the other innings went to a banged-up (and possibly regressing, I guess) Kendrick and a rushed Pettibone. Hamels and Lee had more WAR than the rotation as a whole, which strikes me as unusual

And I know no one wants to hear it, but the timing of the Brown and Revere injuries really hurt. Doc, Howard, and Adams were all risks of different sorts, of course, but negative WAR?

Last year was horrible but not especially predictive, imo. Mark it down priccs
