Random Thoughts of the Wrong Brothers

You can't just cut him unless he has negative on-field value, which isn't the case. He's probably "worth" $5-8m. Even if you ate half of it and then gave him away, that might make sense. I suspect they can do that and get a C prospect for him, though again I'm not sure Amaro can stomach the obvious failure that would represent.

That said, I'm increasingly sure he's gone a year from now. The guy has no defenders. None. Not in the press, not in the fanbase. Eventually even the FO will have to get it, particularly after another 85-90 loss season and 25 percent drop in attendance and ratings. Amaro is headed for a Rich Kotite legacy.

So with all that in mind, he might be forced into some moves that serve the longer-term good. Short of just firing his dumb ass, this is the best outcome.

Was in the car and Matt Stairs was on (he's signing at the sports expo in Valley Forge). Came back and spent the last 45 minutes watching 2008 highlight videos on youtube. This series is really well done. I cried throughout. Probably because it is the happiest I can ever remember being. Miss that team.

I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater.

That award goes to Cliff Lee easily

FWIW, I know a few blackjack dealers at SugarHouse and in AC that unanimously agree that Paps and Lee are by far the biggest dickheads of any professional sports athletes in the city. Who knows, but there you go.

didnt know they were degenerate gamblers in addition to colossal douches too

You used to be able to walk into Borgata just about every weekday afternoon and see Cliff Lee sitting at a table.

Maybe cliff lee is a dick, maybe he isn't. I don't really care because
A) he's good
B) he doesn't say things like: "I definitely didn't come here for this," Papelbon told MLB.com after the Phillies saw their losing streak climb to eight games following a sweep in Detroit.
C) he's really good

As a fan, yeah is rather root for guys who seem like decent, nice, friendly guys, but if a guy is surly/quiet/etc. in his personal life, I don't really care, but from a baseball standpoint, don't be an ass and bitch about your teammates and blame them for losing when you suck.

Phillies may be interested in Braun. Milwaukee is done with him, and Philly has proven it can handle athletes with a history (Vick). Not sure what it would cost.

Ricky Riccardo (Phil's Spanish language broadcaster) on WIP last night. He's the one local broadcaster that's actually plugged into players (especially Latin ones). He didn't say it would happen, just that Milwaukee doesn't want him in the clubhouse, and the Phillies are poking around.

He also said the reason the Cubans are allowing players to move is so the Cuban government can charge the players to get their families out. They're not allowed to do posting fees because of the embargo. He got this info from some Cuban players, so it sounds like he keeps in touch with them during the off season.

Might have to thrown in a decent prospect or two (especially if you want to get rid of Papelbon), and pay some of Howard's salary, but he would be a great fit. Have him in right, Brown to left, Ruf at 1st, with a really balanced lineup. His contract is actually reasonable, so the net cap hit could be a wash or even positive. I guess the only concern is how much his numbers are impacted by PEDs.

Maybe Brown to CF instead? Figure Brown might also be hurt 40-50 games, or traded for pitching?

Or Brown is traded this week at the meetings.

The rumor during the GM meetings was Ike Davis plus the Mets top pitching prospect for Braun. Have to think the Phils can top that. Plus the Mets are probably out of money now that they've signed Granderson.

According to MLBTraderumors, there are at least 15 teams interested in Bailey. Hoping the Phillies are one of the teams.

I honestly don't want Amaro in a bidding war against 14 other teams for a reliever who:

- is injured now
- won't witch until after the all-star break
- turns 30 before then

If it were truly a "flier" thing, I'd love to have him. But Rube will have 2 years guaranteed, and at least one option year.
